Hog Hunters! Need your advice please.

I'm building a 6.8 SPC. with a 16" scout barrel from AR Performance.
I'd like to pick up a decent scope in the $300.00 range.
So I would like some suggestions that will be hog hunting specific and why you choose what you are recommending.
I saw a nice Leupold 3x9 40 for sale, but it looks like it might already be sold.
I'm open to scopes and red dots. My plan is to eventually get a scope with red dot on top. But that will have to wait for now.
So I really don't care if I get the scope or red dot first. I need something to start with now because it doesn't have any BUIS.

Leupold vx-ii 3-9x40. Point blank zero. Put the crosshairs on anything within 320 yds and pull the trigger. No batteries or electronics to fail. Nice to have some magnification for scouting too.

3x is the absolute max for magnification on the bottom end. If my rifle didn't come with a 3x9 I'd have a 2-7 on there.

Or else you'll only see hair.

leupold makes great options in the 300 range (on the used market). You should be able to get a variX III or VX2 easily with that kind of budget. $250 used gets you a vari-X II which is another great line.

In my experience you don't need to much magnification most of the hogs I shot were within a hundred yards and I use a fixed x4 power Nikon Monarch one hog I shot was just short of 300 yards and he still dropped on the first shot.

It really depends on the type of terrain you hunt in.

Depending on your terrain you could go with a 1x4, 2x7 or 3x9 leupold.

I don't know why you would want to add a red dot to the top, just go with a 1x or 2x on the bottom end and save the weight and hassle.

No, it isn't better, and the low end of that monarch is too much magnification.
You may well find a hog at 25yds or less and you will be screwed keeping on target with that much magnification.

the Leupold VX2 is a standard for many dangerous game hunters. You may want to look at one in a 1-4. I think this will work even better for you than that 3-9, at least for hogs and a 6.8.

I found one of these used, with a cantilever mount for $260.00. Seems like a great deal.
I'm just worried about buying a used scope that only has a three year warranty to begin with.
What do you guys think?
I'm still leaning towards the Leupold.

The vX-2 3x9x40 would suit your rifle and the application just fine.
