Trying to decide on a scope - could use some help!

So, I have a few AR's with red dots and I love them but have a few more that I may build for medium ranges. I really want something that allows me to see out further.

Here is what I've narrowed it down to:

• Primary Arms 5x ACSS
  PA 1-6 ACSS
  PA 1-8 ACSS
  3-9 (Weaver/Nikon/Etc

I really dig the PA's and am leaning toward one of the first two. I've done countless research but just can't seem to decide. Any help would be appreciated.

I bought the SWFA SS 1-4 and finally got a chance to take it out this weekend. I HIGHLY recommend it.

Very clear and bright.

If the PA 1-8x is in your budget, then I highly recommend going with that.

You would be hard pressed to find a better price on a 1-8x.

The 1x will give you the same performance that you are used to with red dots and then you can dial up to 8x which should cover medium range and even let you push into long range (assuming .223/5.56 AR)

What is your primary application? Target shooting? Events/competitions? Plinking?

I would go with a 2.5-10x over a 3-9x if it were me.

The PA 4-16 is worth a look....in reticle of your choice.

At 16x you can spot your own shots easily at 600 yards........

4x is fine at 100 yards........field of view is still big enuf to easily find targets.


You already have low to no magification rifles.........4-16x is a good intro to magnification.

There are a lot of battle rifles with fixed 4x so no big loss up close in usability and the whole idea of magnification is to see better, then the more you have the better.


I will go mid 20`s to low 30`s magnification on my next range ar scope......being able to see at distance is nice, while a 10x is fine for sniper use to 1000 yards.......target use is a whole different thing, you need to see what is happening with the small 22 cal bullet and that is hard without magnification.


Everyone has their preferences.......but I like to see and get a good look while shooting, without dooming some one to spotting scope duty or waiting to walk out and see where I was hitting or stop shooting to look thru a spotting scope.

I use 12-60x70 binoculars and wish they zoomed more, so maybe I am a zoomaholic.

I just picked up the SWFA SS 1-4x24 as well. While the illumination is not daylight bright (look at a Leupold FireDot if that's important), it's certainly a great reticle, and the glass is very clear. For the price, I'm very happy.
