Impulse bought a scope, did I make a mistake?

So my first AR is the Daniel defense v11pro and I got a set of backup magpul sights. Today at the store they had the Nikon p233 3-9x40 scope for $169 and it felt/looked great when I played with it. I checked Amazon and it has 4.8* with over 600 reviews and the price seemed good. I also got the Nikon pmount for $49 (few more bucks than online but not a ton). My goal is to be setup for the local (Petaluma) range which offers 100-300 yard targets. Did I make an ok choice? I can still return this and wanted to double check that it wasn't a POS. Thank you for the help

If it does what you want, you did good...... and it should do that.

Id personally say no. But you wont know until you run a tracking test. TBH id recommend something like the vortex strike eagle for an AR at 100-300 if you do not want to spend the money on a higher end optic like an ACOG

$169 for a scope says it all. Obviously everyone's budget is different but optics should never be an impulse buy. Too much stuff to know about optics to be able to make a quick decision like that.

I was looking for an optic for my AR and nearly bought that scope.

I got a red dot Walther PS22 instead to save a little $

I think that Nikon had really good reviews overall

I would have spent more to get a better quality optic to complement a nice rifle like the DD. And I like a 2.5-10X for that range, but 3-9x will probably work.

Thanks for the input! Can anyone make some recommendations on an exact scope for my use? I was also looking at vortex and leopauld(sp)

I should say the vortex at up to $250 didn't seem as clear as the Nikon and the leopauld seemed to start around $300+

Leupold VXR Patrol 3-9X if you like 3-9X
Vortex Viper PST 2.5-10X There are a number of reticules available.

Really nice scope: NightForce NXS 2.5-10X I have one of these on my SCAR 17

I wouldn't go any lower scale than the Leupold if you are looking for good quality. The other Leupold I like is the VXR 2-7X, but that's a lower magnification.

Thank you scottsbad, I appreciate the effort. I've looked at them all and its out of my budget for now but I'll keep looking at upgrades in the $300 range compared to what I purchased

Aimpoint Pro. Not a scope, but an excellent choice for 100-300 on a Daniel Defense. You can find them used for really good prices.

I recommend the vortex pst 1-4. It's probably one of the best scope for its price. Plus you can't beat vortex warranty

Doesn't sound like a POS but it also doesn't sound like it's as nice as the rifle you're putting it on. You can spend a lot on glass but if you don't need all the high dollar stuff to hit a gong at 300 why bother?

                              Vortex crossfire II 4-16 x 50 for under $ 300.
You won't find a better scope for that price.
