Surefire G2 mount, aside of Surefire M79

I tried to put my Surefire G2 LED (Nitrolon body) into a Surefire M79 and broke the mount (see picture).

Apparently G2 Nitrolon is a bit bigger than 1". The Z59 tailcap is noticeably smaller in diameter.

For now I took an ancient mount that held a 1" scope to a Weaver rail on another gun. The screws barely grabbed, so honestly I'm afraid they would strip, and in any case it's not ideal to cannibalize other guns.

So, does anyone have a personal experience and a suggestion for a Pitcanny mount that would fasten a Surefire G2 Nitrolon?

These all get very good reviews, and are all compatible with the G2.

    Viking Tactics:

    VLTOR:

    Elzetta:

Daniel Defense (not sure about the G2, the page doesn't specify):
Find the full line of firearms, parts and accessories from Daniel Defense, including AR-15’s, AR-Pistols and Bolt Action Rifles for sport shooting and hunting.

Lots of people use inexpensive Weaver rings, but you may need longer screws, as you mentioned.

      . . .
      VLTOR:
Thanks a lot for all the suggestions. I have decided to go with VLTOR, because I'm intrigued by the design. But for some reason I ordered an offset mount from Optactical.com instead of direct from VLTOR. Now OPT e-mailed me that they are backordered and it'll take a few weeks. Well, I hope VLTOR continues production and mounts are there to be gotten.

BTW, all these sites say that indeed G2 Nitrolon is 1.040" or so. Who knew!

        You forgot the LaRue mount.

I've owned all of them except the Elzetta.

I still have an VLTOR and a DD.

Of them, I think the VTAC represents the best price and usability, with the offset mount at $20.

I played around with my G2 and 6P in different 1" scope mounts, and measured the dimensions while I was at it.

My G2 is 1.025" diameter, and the 6P is 1.007". This makes a fairly big difference in how the rings fit - most rings fit the 6P very well, while the G2 is a bit snug, and hard to get seated on some rings. The give of the plastic body seemed to help once enough pressure was on the rings. If it were a metal light, I'd have scraped off some of the finish getting them seated in most of the rings.

I tried the following 1" rings:
          Classic Weaver tip-off stamped steel
          Millett Angle Loc
          Leupold Mk4
          Armalite (not made any more)
          Warne Maxima
          Cheap Chinese rings

Most of them tightened down fine once I got the rings on, though the screws for the stamped steel Weaver rings were too short with the G2.

The Warne Maxima were too much trouble to get onto the G2, due to the vertical split design and the separate recoil lug, so I gave up after a few minutes. I'm not sure if there would have been too much gap for them to tighten enough to grab the rail first, which is a drawback with vertically split rings.

I finally got the VLTOR SM-OCG off-set mount, from a link at Maxicon's suggestion. I'm very impressed by workmanship quality, and it fits G2 LED with Nitrolon body well. Unfortunately, my universal rail is too short, so the fit is not pretty. It looks like Hillibilly Tactical. But oh well. It's a good excuse to finally get a gun with built-in rails on forend. Thanks again for the suggestions.

As for M79, I thought about fixing it by manufacturing a replacement part, but although doable it's too bothersome.

+1 for the VTAC mount. I just ordered 3 over the weekend. Now, if they would just ship...
