Busted? 5x Magnifier

So I bought a holo sight and 5x magnifier off a fellow CGer recently and it seems like the magnifier might be busted. I'll try to get a picture later but basically when you look through it it looks like the 9 o'clock to 12 o'clock portion is blacked out a little, kind of like a waning moon. I can't get the thing centered to cowitness with the optic either, even though they are a set. I took it to several shops and they can't figure it out either. CGer says it must have happened in shipping but unfortunately i waited too long to file a claim so they won't replace it, and the warranty is out. So basically just trying to see if maybe it's something stupid, or cheaply fixable or if I'm out a magnifier. Pictures to come after I get home from work.

That sucks, did he ship it with some type of protection inside the box?

Just the box it came in unfortunately, so not really, no. Haven't had a chance to sight the optic yet so hopefully that's fine.
