    Problem with AK scope mounting?

Here is a question for your AK-savvy folks.

I have a Romanian Wasr-22 with a standard AK scope rail on it. I have a standard AK-mount from Kalinka Optics.

The rail and mount appear to match up reasonably well, but there is a lot of slop between the mount and the rail (see black gap to bottom side of the mount/rail in the second photo). As a result the mount is loose and moves around easily.

The scope came with basic instructions in Russian (not much use to me) and some pins (2 long, 2 short). I cannot figure out what the pins are for, and I think I am fairly mechanically inclined :-)

Anyone know how to fix this slop between the mount and rail, and have this thing mounted securely? The lever on the scope mount appears to do nothing of use.

Notice the gap (black) between the rail and mount? That is the cause of the problem I think.

    Any input would be appreciated.

Looks like all you can do is try a different mount.

Those clamp type AK mounts are like that. The middle and bottom portion of the rail is where the mount locks down on. The handle can be adjusted for a tighter "clamp down". I don't have one in front of me, but I think you remove the lock bar on the bottom and adjust the tension of the handle.

You can do the adjustment that 69Mach1 talked about, but it is possible that the gap you have is more than the adjustment can cover. The gap in that picture looks big to me. The are 2 different dovetail standards used by Russia. Kalinka calls them "AK" and "SVD" version. You may have incompatible mounts.

          Thanks for the info

Thanks guys for the info. I have it set up now, looks pretty solid.

          Here's the solution: (source below)

          Clamp Adjustments
Step 1: Invert the sight and notice the retaining clip that is holding the lever onto the sight. Place a small screwdriver blade on the edge of the retaining clip, and by using the thumb lever as a pivot, rotate the retainer out of it's detent. In the field, you can hold the sight steady by placing it between your knees.

Step 2: Once the retaining clip is rotated 90 degrees, you can easily slide it off of the center shaft of the clamp lever. It will now pull off of the sight.

Step 3: Once the clip is removed, you can disengage the lever from it's gear on the center shaft. be sure not to lose the clip or the washer underneath the lever.

Step 4: With the sight mounted to the rifle, re-position the lever until you can obtain a tight fit on the weapon optics side plate. Do not overtighten.

Step 5: Once the proper tension is obtained, replace the lever onto the gear, making sure to relocate the stem of the bushing arm in the hole in the lever flag. Also make sure you have not lost the special washer that fits under the lever.

Step 6: Now, replace the lever retaining clip, by inserting the center shaft into the large hole in the clip.

Step 7: Now simply slide the clip back into the detent. Try the fit, make sure the sight will slide onto the plate easily, and will also tighten up. There should be a moderate amount of tension on the lever when it is about 85 percent closed, and it should take mild pressure to lock it completely. Do not overtighten. Repeat the procedure to adjust the tension if needed.

Glad to hear you got it worked out. I just checked my scope mount on my WASR22 and it has the same gap, but it's adjusted tight. Now let's see that bad boy.
