Need feedback on scope

Well, I just got my dream scope for my SSG3000 - it's a Hensoldt ZF 4-16x56 FF. For the money (under $2300 delivered, no tax) it was a screaming deal.
I've also played with a Kahles K624i scope that I loved - it was almost too much scope for the gun.
Check out the rifle scope clearance sale at Eurooptic.com. Some really good deals there. With the SSG3000, you owe it to the gun to put the best possible German or Austrian glass on it

Both good scopes, but you have to decide if you want a First Focal Plane (FFP) reticle or a Second Focal Plane (SFP) reticle. The Vortex is FFP, the NF NXS scopes are SFP, so you're comparing apples to oranges. And the new Razor HD II Vortex scopes are every bit as good as Nightforce, in every way. For the type of shooting I believe you are intending to do, a FFP scope will probably serve you better in the long term. That being the case, you might want to compare the Vortex to one of Nightforce's FFP offerings instead. Nightforce has four FFP scopes in their lineup.NRA Benefactor Life Member

The Kahles K624i, Nightforce ATACR and Minox would be some of my top choices, the Vortex Gen II would be up there as well for many people. If you want to know the pros and cons of each, give us a call at 916.670.1103.Dealer for Zero Compromise Optic, Tangent Theta, Leupold, Nightforce, Vortex, Aimpoint, Desert Tech, Swarovski and more...

^^This, especially the Kahles (in my opinion). That scope is just downright amazing and a great value (although it is pricey). Mine has the "Christmas Tree" reticle, and that was a little busy at first, but it works.Comment

When spending that much, I'd prefer to get as much information as possible since there's more than meets the eye

I use a bunch of Vortex stuff; Razor scope, PST's, binos, spotting scope, and really dig it all. But, the Kahles is a fine piece of glass as is The ATACR. I haven't handled the Minox but if CSTactical is recommending it, it definitely should be on the list.

I just can't see spending a fortune on a SFP scope. My understanding is that FFP is the way to go, it even mentions same in a Sticky 'somewhere' on calguns and in Rex videos. But I don't have experience LR shooting. If I ever start LR shooting my first scope purchase would be the SWFA SS 10x42mm to minimize worries and limit initial expenditures.
In any event, also suggest that you go with the Vortex over a SFP NF.Last edited by ifilef; 05-14-2016, 9:10 PM.Comment
