    Finally got my dream scope

A friend of mine pointed me at a clearance sale at Euro Optic, and they had a Hensoldt ZF 4-16x56 FF mil-dot scope on clearance for $900 off... Those things have been impossible to find for any kind of "less than totally outrageous" price ever since Hensoldt decided to go through a single US distributor.

Anyhow, I've been searching for one for years, and at this price, it was cheaper than what people were selling used ones for. I'm sure there's a new and improved version coming out, but I don't care - the price on this thing just can't be beat.

Can't wait to get it and play with it!

Congrats on a beautiful piece of glass.

    What's it going on?

Thanks! It's going on a German made Sig SSG3000 (the original one with the McMillan stock). That should be a very nice combo - and one of these days I need to get out to a range where I can shoot beyond 500 yards...

Thank you for choosing a quality scope to put on that bad boy.

Drives me nuts when people buy precision rifles and plop a $100 chicom scope on em.

I was kind of raised in the European tradition - buy a cheap rifle and put a superb scope on it I've been sitting on that SSG for years, and I've had some decent scopes on it, but this Hensoldt was the one I've always wanted to get for it.

They must be coming out with something new and exciting because I've never seen these things priced like they are now. They have one of the ZF 6-24x72 units on sale for $1000 off - but it is a rear-focal reticle, and I've gotten lazy and used to the front focal ones.

In any event, getting a top-end Hensoldt for the price of an upper-mid-range Leupold was a no-brainer.

That sounds like a good tradition.

I spend all my money on scopes first and then figure out a rifle for it.

I've always been curious about looking through "the Hubble"... Which is what people call the big daddy hensoldt.

I just went on over to EuroOptic to check that scope out, looks real nice! I'm a sucker for compact scopes, similar in size to my Leupold MK6. Congrats I'm sure you will love it, it is a Hensoldt and all

I am a big fan of the ZF 3.5-26; that's the only scope I'll use now for ELR shooting. I am not aware of a scope that has better long-range pictures or more elevation range.

Ain't that the truth. I think the only CA website where people spend money on optics is CAPRC.com

It's too bad... would be great to have a high end scope store in so cal.

What most people do not realize is that most Hensoldt productions actually ARE worth the cost even though they came with high end sticker prices. They make products that are second to none. I think they are less popular in the US since almost all the models have CW turrets while most American scopes have CCW turrets.

With optics, you have no choice but to purchase online, sight unseen. Since decent scopes typically run from $3,000 to $7,000, it is simply no possible for brick and mortar stores to pack any real inventory for people to buy before they try. For this reason, I think we end up with a lot of faddish scopes. When one people gets a decent scope that works, his buddies will often pick up with same scope since they see it work well. The nice thing is that you generally get what you pay for.

People will point to scopes of the "best value". Really, the budget scopes that have "good value" are nothing special, rather, they come with features that the buyer perceives as a value feature.
