    Nikon scopes

All things being equal but in name (and price), is there a difference between the Nikon Prostaff and Buckmasters II scopes? From what I can find out, it seems Prostaff is a newer model and that's about it. Name change for marketing purposes only.

I have 1 of each and from what I can tell, the only differences are the power selector ring and the "focus" style.

    Prostaff- European/rubber ring/smooth adj.

    Buckmaster 2 - American/hard plastic ring/stiff adj.

Other than that they are the same. I lean towards the prostaff because of its features.

I buddy of mine also has a Buckmaster 2 and his turrets are not zero rest/knobs. Go figure.

Thanks. I have a Buckmasters II on one rifle and thinking of buying another for a new rifle. Price difference between the two is $70. If the differences are aesthetic, I'll spend $70 less and buy more ammo.

I did a ladder and box test on the Buckmaster and it performed admirably. I have yet to test the pro. Hope that helps

Check out Weaver 40/44 too. It's made in Philippines same as Nikon pro staff. I have both and if you put a piece of tape over the brands you wouldn't be able to tell them apart. Weaver has a lower price tag.

Glass and features are different between the two scope lines.

Great job with the pics! Nail on the head, no quick focus eye piece and the glass is better on the PROSTAFF. I do not own a Buckmaster II scope but have looked through one. For me having the quick focus eye piece and the better glass coating is woth the extra $. Now for my 17 year old son who has perfect vision he has no need to adjust the focus. Definitely worth looking through them to see what works for you. They are both backed by Nikon's No Fault Policy too.

I read a month or two back that the BM 2's are rebadged original prostaff's. Not the new expensive prostaff's but the first gen.

It makes sense as the price points were about the same.

My old PROSTAFF's all have the quick focus eyepiece. Nikon was looking for a way to get guys a quality no frills scope that is still built tough and has a quality company behind it.
