    Front Sight Rifle Course Optics

Can someone recommend a good optics setup for the Front Sight Practical Rifle course?

I have an Aimpoint M4 with 3x on one, but I need a second setup that is lighter. Was considering a similar setup with an Aimpoint Micro and a 3x, or a ~1-4 optic with a angle mounted RMR.

Any suggestions would be helpful. Thanks.

    Try a trijicon MRO

If the old days, you would shoot out to 400

Only out to 200 for the skills test...

Many did just fine with Iron Sights....

I would set up your rifle the way you intend to use the rifle... If for Home Defense and Zombie attacks, a red dot... scratch that- a QUALITY red dot that works with your eyes is a nice add on...

Eotechs are always fuzzy/ annoying to me... others LOVE them...

      Aimpoints are good

      Trijicons rock

So if you are on the "wrong side of 40" and a hard focus on the front sight is getting harder, a red dot might be a good choice.

You could also go with a simple 2x or 4x optic.

I took the course in the 90's with a Remington 700 in 30-06 with a 3x9 leopold... I left the scope on 3x for the entire course....

Do yourself a favor and shoot a few times before the class...

Sight in your rifle... I prefer to be 2 1/2" high at 100 for hunting rifles...
so you are dead on at 200 (=/-) and 2-3" low at 300

Deep knee bends and push ups are also a GREAT IDEA... The class is not physically demanding... but if you don;t have a normal work out routine, push ups will make shooting while standing easier and more enjoyable...

deep knee bends help to wake up leg muscles you will use when transiting to sitting, squatting and prone....

Easier and better to wake them up now then to realize you work them upon day 2 or the class.

The test is now 100 yards. You do not need optics. If you want to run optics magnification is not needed, but will make it easier. Their is no reason to hit the prone for the 100 yard shot. Its an easy off hand.

I ran the 4 day with a Primary arms Micro-dot and just missed DG by 1 shot. My dad ran it with a Burris 1-4 and had a difficult time with finding the reticle on the close/quick shots. He was almost always behind the buzzer. I would suggest a quality red dot for the practical rifle course.
