Bushnell Holosight, Aimpoint Micro, or Eotech?

Well, I'm having trouble deciding on one of these optics for my new M1A Socom 16. I'm not planning on buying anything right now due to finances but I wanted to get some more experienced peoples' opinions on these sights before I purchase one. I listed my own personal pros/cons as I see them. Please, please do add your own. The purpose for me owning one of these is to be able to hit my target at 3-400 yards away effectively (I know, it may be difficult to do but I want the most effective for both far and close ranges).

    Bushnell Holosight

    Link: http://www.bushnell.com/general/rifl...ht_51-0023.cfm
Pros: Cost is cheap ($250), multiple reticles/brightnesses, similar to Eotechs
Cons: Not too much is known [by me] about these, hard to get a good cheek weld (but I have an adjustable cheek pad...)

    Eotech (no specific model)

Link: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/EOTech (just a general one...)
Pros: Well known, very commonly used [in military and civilian use]
Cons: Expensive, I've heard heard reports that these can overheat and break easily

    Aimpoint Micro [H-1]

    link: http://www.aimpoint.com/products/aim...oint_micro_h-1
    Pros: Small, light
    Cons: one reticle, pretty expensive

You would be better served with one of the low power scopes, 1x4x24. The Millett DMS-1 is good for the money. Burris XTR 1X4X24 is nice and in the $600 price range. Bushnell offers one among others. That is the way to go to get the best of both worlds.

Both the Eotech and Holosight are designed for the AR platform, and will be too high for the M1A. That leaves the Micro. All of these are mostly close-up sights, and will become challenging out to 3-400 yards, as you say.

There's the Holosight XLP, which is designed to be closer to the bore axis than the Eotech style models, but isn't as robust a sight as the Eotech styles.

I'd echo MAX100's recommendation for a 1-3x or 1-4x optic to cover those ranges, unless your budget can cover an Aimpoint+magnifier combo. Which one will depend a lot on your budget, and you'll need a mount as well.

For under $250, it's hard to go wrong with the DMS-1. Going over $500 opens up a wide range of possibilities.

I'm not saying I want to only shoot at far ranges. I want these optics to work for closer ranges (to 100 yds say) yet still be somewhat effective for ranges beyond that (300 yds or so)

Thanks for the information tho, any other thoughts on these?

          Of those, the Aimpoint.

The problem with scopes on the M1A is you have to buy a $200 mount.

You might want to consider a scout scope.

Hm... now that I've been actually doing more research on optics for my new rifle I can't decide what I want to get mostly cuz i cant tell

I was looking at the millett dms ( http://www.millettsights.com/control...g/tactical_dms ) and the concept of 5-400 meters sounds appealing, but that optic looks a little too long (dimension wise) for me...

The Aimpoint has a 4moa dot. No exactly the best choice for shooting past 100m.

No. You still can't mount a scope to it.
