Vortex spitfire 1x eye relief questions

I'm really considering getting a vortex spitfire 1x prism scope due to my astigmatism issues. I read on the vortex site that the optic has 3.7 inch eye relief. What does that mean? Does that mean if I'm looking thru the optic closer than 3.7 inches or farther I will get scope shadows, as you would thru a magnified scope? Or can this be treated as any other RDS where I don't have to worry about the distance between my eye and the optic?

Its similar to a magnified optic, there is an "eye box". It caught me by surprise when I first mounted it. The reticicle is very sharp tho, and well worth the tradeoff if you have an astigmatism, like I do.

Thanks for the info. How "lenient" is the eye box? Would it work well with +/- 1inch eye relief?

Also, do you know if the scope can be used with a magnifier?

You can adjust the focus ring to customize eye relief.
I don't think mounting a magnifier will work. They make a 3x model.

I tried one at 4" from my eye , same as my Eotech red dot position, and it works fine. I Like the reticle and it works great compared to red dot astigmatism issues.

Eye relief is the distance you have to position your eyes so the cone of light coming from the eyepiece fills your pupils and gives you the image. Longer eye relief is more comfortable as you can move your head back and forth quite a bit and still see a nice full image.
