Need advice on magnifier for AR-15

Was hoping I can get some pointers from you experts! I have a Rock River AR-15 with an EOTech red dot. I'd like to put a magnifier in front of the EOTech that can be flipped down or up. Ideally, I' like to be able to use that combo of the magnifier and EOTech quickly and accurately at everything from 5 yards to 100 yards. Yes, I know I don;t need it at 5 years, but I believe in a little competition that I'll be required to use the same set-up for 100 yards as I do for every other distance.

Any particular suggestions? Thanks in advance!!

I have several Primary Arms 3x w/long eye relief on flip to the side mounts. I'm very happy with them. I use them with EXPSs at lower 1/3 co-witness.

I was thinking 3x too... Any larger would be weird on the short distances right?

I'd just get the Eotech G33 or wait for the new Aimpoint 3x to come out.

I've used cheap magnifiers before and everything from the mount to the glass left a lot to be desired.

That's the whole point of it being moveable - I don't even use a magnifier until about 200 yards - sometimes as close as 100. You could certainly use it at short distances, but there isn't really any point unless its life or death...

I use a Burris AR-Tripler in a LaRue flip mount. The mount was a bit of a splurge, but the magnifier was a good value at the price I paid, and I've always been happy with the combination.

Some people might tell you that you get more versatility for less weight with an illuminated 1-4x or 1-6x scope. Those people aren't necessarily wrong.

There are advantages and disadvantages to both.

I rarely use anything between MIN and MAX magnification on my LPV's. But honestly, I use them at MAX 99% of the time. This is part of the reason I've been liking 4x ACOGs so much lately.

With a red dot and magnifier combo you can remove the magnifier for lighter weight when you know you are only using the red dot. A 3x magnified 2MOA dot becomes a 6MOA dot (3MOA on an Eotech). The problem is this magnified dot also seems to magnify my astigmatism so I tend to gravitate towards my red dot only only or 4x rifles.

The only time I might use the magnifier is when I am zeroing a gun with a red dot.

I have an acog, and a g33 behind a MRO..right now with the eotech recalls you can get a g33 for great value in the Marketplace..I personally have issues shooting the acog up close but there are a lot who swear by it.

I've just started running a MRO with a Burris tripler. Haven't had a lot of time with it but I'm liking it.

Vortex 3x magnifer. I've had it over a year now and 1,500 rnds down range. It's been great and for ~$200 it's a good deal.

Another vote for Vortex 3x magnifier. I purchased mine from Amazon for less than $200.

I was very close to buying a magnifier for the red dot on my primary rifle. In the end, I decided to go with a vortex strike eagle 1-6 illuminated scope. I can use it as a red dot close up and enjoy magnification that lets me reach out if needed. I'll be moving the old red dot to my back up rifle.

Thanks for the idea! Just picked up a near mint g33 from the Market place!

If money is no concern, I think the Eotech G33 is the best magnifier to put in front of a red dot. The glass is crystal clear and the diopter is really helpful.

For those like me who can't afford the top of the line, Sight Mark offers
3x, 5x, and 7x flip out of the way magnifiers. I have no complaints with my 3x, and you can buy right from Sight Mark!!!
