EOTech EXPS 3-0 thermal drift testing results

I saw this post this morning and thought it offered some good data points.

For those wanting to know the specifics of thermal drift, a dude on M4C tested his EXPS 3-0 in an optics lab and this is what he found:

I did a little experiment with my EO today: Screenshot_2015-12-18-12-09-33 by azoutdoorsman, on Flickr 2015-12-18_12-08-23 by azoutdoorsman, on Flickr 2015-12-18_12-07-15 by azoutdoorsman, on Flickr 2015-12-18_01-02-35 by azoutdoorsman, on Flickr No zero shift that I could discern. The front and rear lenses on the EOtech were a little fogged up from condensation, but it was on the OUTSIDE of the lens and wiped off easily. Sight was outside approximately an hour. Checking the zero against t...

    "so... interesting results.

    Model EXPS3-0

    Zeroed at 73,

took it up to 125 confirmed with Infrared thermometer. Zero shift.
took it down to 32 confirmed with Infrared thermometer. 1 1/2 MOA Shift. ended up at 1/2 MOA shift after getting back to 73

Re-zeroed at 73, took it down to 40 confirmed with Infrared thermometer. Zero shift.
took it up to 150 confirmed with Infrared thermometer. Zero shift.

So I suspect the shift has to do with expansion and contraction. Could not really push the upper temp limit to see if I could get it to shift, our equipment only goes to 150."

Would have been neat to test a Micro or Pro at the same time.

If you read the last page of the linked thread he does mention an Aimpoint test:

Not a lot with T-2's but did some wit T-1's. Nothing notable as far as shift with cold weather.

So, put it in the oven at 130 deg for 1 hour, let it cool to room temp, then freeze it, then its good to go!

I was about to order an exps2 but not sure after reading up on the issue. Not sure how widespread this is.

            Eotech speaks about the issue at the SHOT show;

LAS VEGAS -- EOTech, the maker of a once popular tactical optic, is trying to rebuild customer confidence that was damaged in the wake of a crippling, civil fraud lawsuit over defective rifle sights.

Yeah, just replaced mine with the Aimpoint PRO. I will be open to buying another EOTech down the line when/if they fix the issue completely, but right now Aimpoint has got my business.

I have a family member on LAPD Metro and he zeroed a squad members EOTech a month ago. They had quals this week and the EOTech was off 3-4" at 50y.

My family member is pretty dialed in too. Scored perfect on his rifle qual with a Hk416/T1 and just shy of perfect on his pistol qual with a 1911. So I believe this first hand account of EOTech performance.

                This is SoCal weather, btw.
