Binoculars are a lot more eye friendly and easier to acquire your subject than a spotter.
If you don't own a pair it's a must have 10x42 is a great choice but you can go with 15x42 just use something to steady your glass like the bench, a pole, a stick so many things that work besides a tripod no different than free hand your spotter. I use the bench all the time just make sure your torso is resting on the bench and your elbows are also on the bench this will help to steady your binocs.
I hunt so it's always something I use and they stay in my truck.
