    Vortex Razor AMG

Anybody see this at shot show, by chance?

Really curious to hear about first impressions.

Supposed to be significantly better optics than their Razor HD Gen2.

Same optics as the Razor HD Gen2 line. With the 30mm tube, it's definitely a much lighter scope. It doesn't have that some hefty, heavy duty feel of the regular Razor HD line, obviously, but that's not its intention. Maybe the ones on display at SHOT were just prototypes, but for me, the turrets don't feel as nice as the regular line. Kinda flimsy, but that just might be due to the reduced amount of material that cuts the weight of the scope.

I called Vortex and they said, "the AMG is already sold out and back ordered well into 2017." I had a military discount order in for the Gen II EBR-2C and is on back order, and I was interested in switching to the new AMG. I decided not change my order due to the wait for an AMG. Other than the weight difference was not that different from the Gen II EBR-2C, according to Rueben at Vortex.

There will only be a handful of the Vortex AMG scopes sent out to a few dealers this year, I wouldn't depend on buying one this year unfortunately.

Interesting. Thanks for chiming in. I was told by Vortex that an AMG is immediately available for military discount buyers.

Also, I was told that the optics are *significantly* better than the Razor Gen 2.

Ugh. Hate conflicting information. I tend to trust the consumer vs. the company selling the product, but Vortex has always been on the up and up when it comes to product differences and feedback.

Told by whom? I don't think it's possible for its optics to be "significantly" better than the Razor Gen 2. A "little bit" better is possible however.

American made glass but not significantly better than the Gen 2 Razor. Honestly for the money, if weight isn't a concern, I'd opt for the Gen 2 Razor or the AMG.

Likewise, I personally would go with the Gen 2 Razor over the AMG unless I was specifically looking for a lightweight scope.

The Gen 2 Razor blew me away optically... at the price point it's stunning. I say that as someone that mostly shot with S&B and Premier.

Get your eyes on the third gen Kahles K624i, it's slightly more in cost than the Gen 2 with superior glass and less weight. The competitive shooters that come in and compare them side by side agree almost every time.

Almost did Mike... was trying to sell some stuff to buy one from you during that deal you had last year, but didn't make it in time.

I have the K624i Gen2 and while it resolves really well and is super bright, it has a little more CA than I like. Not that it matters except when i'm shooting paper at 100 yards at max magnification really. Outside of that, it shines.

Once I get some scratch together, i'll hit you up for a gen 3.

Excellent, let us know. The Gen 3 models also have much better glass than even the Gen 2 models.

I've had a chance to try a couple of the K624i Gen 3 model. I'm absolutely willing the pay the extra over the Razor HD Gen 2. I did not notice any CA and the clarity, to my eyes at least, is noticeably better than the Vortex. I plan on getting one for my next rifle.

I checked out the Razor HD AMG at SHOT.

Appearance wise it isn't much different than the rest of their scopes, but we also had a chance to check out their manufacturing facility so knowing all the work that goes into making that scope 100% American Made is very impressive.

But I have never been a big stickler for Made in America only products, so the sticker shock on the AMG (while appropriate) is a bit much for me.

I was looking at the Kahles 10-50x56 at SHOT and that is an unbelievable scope...its the current front runner for the Ruger Precision setup I've been planning out.

Also, don't overlook the Kahles K312i or Helia line. I think the Helia is the perfect hunting rifle scope.
