    Scar 17 optics

I am picking up my Scar 17 today and now it's time to think about optics. I shoot at WEGC. This gun will be mainly used on a bench @ 200 yards with 520 yard bench shooting as well, shooting at paper and hand loading for accuracy. I would like to be able to put a clay on the berm at those ranges and use those as targets. I will do the occasional close range (50-80 yards at steel silhouettes). But I could go iron sights or put my eotech on it. I've read that Scars are rough on optics so I need to make sure the optic is up to par. I was thinking maybe the vortex line up due to the unlimited warranty. What are some of your recommendations?

Vortex would work...but I wouldn't skimp on a cheap one.

    Warranty is great from them.

Leupold 1-8 or US Optics 1-8

I plan on putting a Vortex PST 1-4 MRAD on mine, just haven't gotten around to buying it yet.

I've had the nightforce 2.5-10x32 with ihr reticle on my scar 17 for almost 2 years now, works great had no issues. It's a great combination. Might want to check out fnforum.net a lot of conversations on this exact topic over there.

Scars really only beat up really inexpensive low quality optics, buy a good quality scope and you won't have anything to worry about.

Thanks guys, at the moment I'm thinking under $1k. But if there was a strong case for an even higher cost optic I would consider it.

I bought the vortex viper hs2.5-10x32 with qd burris pepr mount. Gonna throw a red dot on top and call it a day. Cabelas had some great prices.

That's a great idea. The red dot on top. I don't know why I didn't think about that!

I recently bought a Burris XTR II for my .308 bolt gun and took it out to a thousand yards day 1 and am pretty happy with the results. The adjustments are very solid, FFP option, illuminated, clear glass, etc. They have a 1.5-8x and a 2-10x which might fit the bill for you.
