Hey ya'll was wondering if I can get some pointers for some optics for a AR-15 that is in 7.62x39 caliber ? I noticed that there are some optics specific for the drop off of 5.56 and .223. Thanks.

Optics For AR-15

If you want a BDC type sight, there are some calibrated for AK-47s, which would probably work fine as long as your barrel is of similar profile. I wouldn't want a .223 or .308 type drop on there since the 7.62x39 drops differently. Otherwise, get a sight that has a non-calibrated reticle. -
One solution
Go to Kenton
Get a Nikon Monarch 2-8 nikoppex
Get the free custom target turret from Kenton and the free cutom turret from Nikon
Custom Ballistic Drop Compensators. Since 2002 we have been dedicated to precision. We offer the best ballistic drop compensators on the market.

I went simple. An old style Nikon 2x7 prostaff with a simple reticle. Sighted in at 25 yards, it gives a zero aim point out to 200 (2" high @ 100, 3" low at 200). Since the round is basicly good to 200yds IMHO, that's all that's needed. The mag ranges also work. 2x for close in two-eyed targeting, the 7x works great for medium range.sigpic

I have Leatherwood Hi-Lux CMR AK762 on mine. CMR AK 762 model is for 7.62x39 cartridge. Here is the description
There is new CMR4 available. CMR works fine for me.Last edited by APV; 11-30-2015, 9:17 PM.sigpicComment

I've got an Acog in the market place that's calibrated for 7.62 175gr out of a 20" barrel@2651fps.
With a little digging around you can find out what the difference is compared to what you currently shoot.Originally posted by longrange1my gun shoots better with shiny brass...plus not only does the shiny brass make me look like a pimp at the range if the sun catches it just right it blinds the guy next to me which improves my odds of winning the match.Originally posted by XDJYoFull size. Figure out how much magnification you want or need....
How will it b used? Nikon makes some awesome higher magnification scopes that allow you to read the target manufacturer info, the 8 point font, at 100 yards.... Great for a bench gun but I would not trust it to survive a drop or two....
What is your ballpark budget for the set up? Rings optics and mount?
Should we assume that it is a flat top or will you mount to a carry handle?Rule 1- ALL GUNS ARE ALWAYS LOADED
Rule 2 -NEVER LET THE MUZZLE COVER ANYTHING YOU ARE NOT PREPARED TO DESTROY (including your hands and legs)
Rule 3 -KEEP YOUR FINGER OFF THE TRIGGER UNTIL YOUR SIGHTS ARE ON THE TARGET
Rule 4 -BE SURE OF YOUR TARGET AND WHAT IS BEYOND IT

I like its lock system. It is convenient. I bought CMR after reading a positive review from the guy that claimed to use CMRs in his company across the globe, probably private security or a military contractor.sigpicComment

Any optic can be used with that round.
A BDC reticle and a ballistic program (like Nikon Spot On) would give you accurate drop distances for your specific load.
Or like another member posted, you could get a duplex reticle and a custom turret (Nikon, Leupold, and a few others currently offer them with more companies joining the list each year).
Some optics do have 7.62x39 specific reticles as well, like this ACOG or Leatherwood 1-4x
Even if you get an optic with a 5.56 specific reticle, you can use it with a 7.62x39. You would just need to find the associated holdover point distances, similar to if you went with the BDC reticle.
