Eotech reticle changed w new battery?

I have a 1 MOA dot Eotech that came used on a rifle I bought while ago. The Eotech was brand new though and seller gave me the box it came in etc.

For past year even if I cranked it up, the 1 MOA dot would scatter a bit but still a very precise dot- I actually liked it for long range accuracy without the circle around it (I couldn't choose the reticle cause came w rifle).

Put a new Surefire CR123 battery in it few mos and stuck in safe and haven't shot it or tested it since.

Took it out tonight just to play with and unless I have it on a very low setting, there is a red halo effect around the dot and also when crank it up a faint red line going across lower half of the reticle.

Like said, the dot is still perfect 1 MOA but I have to have it on a setting that is just right and before if I cranked it up even to full power that tiny dot would scatter a bit but still very precise- just extremely bright but zero halo effect w red faint circle and faint red line.

Is this normal since I put a new battery in it and just need to make sure I don't give it too much juice or did something happen to it somehow while sitting in my safe!!?? Just seems strange because even though I don't use AR for home defense, before if I ever needed it in a pinch I felt I could just push the on button a bunch of times and be gtg- that's not the case anymore and this red halo shows up and red line that never did before even on brightest setting.

My advice. Sell it and get an Aimpoint. Not being mean. Being serious. Eotechs are garbage. Save yourself the headache. The military is dumping them for a reason.

Zero shift, delamination, and problems like you describe.

This is not a solution, this is an opinion.

This is what is listed on the troubleshooting portion of their website found here: http://www.eotechinc.com/hws-service...roubleshooting

Reticle Has a Halo Effect or More Than 1 Reticle is Visible

Lower the brightness level of the reticle. The fault is generally caused by the reticle brightness being too high. The reticle is designed to not be so bright as to block the target.

The reticle is optically projected onto the target plane. Focus on it as you would any other object at that distance. Do not focus on the sight housing, as with other reflex sights, but focus on the target. The outer ring is designed to be a reference to center, similar to a ghost ring.

If you wear corrective lenses for nearsightedness, you will require them to see the reticle in focus. This is because the reticle is projected onto the target plane. If you wear bifocals or have astigmatism, you may see a distorted reticle.

Check with others who have used the sight and compare what you see, to ensure the issue is not with your focal acuity. Do this prior to sending the sight for repair.

Follow the instructions on the HWS parts and repair page to contact EOTech for repair and service.
