    nikon monarch 3 vs 5

Looked through a monarch 5 today at cabelas. Pretty nice! Does anyone know the difference between the monarch 3 and 5 other than cost?

Im intrested in the nikoplex for prairie dogs. Anyone have either one?

Great question and 1 I get asked frequently. I'm glad that you have looked down the tube of Nikon's new MONARCH 5 riflescope. It is made with Nikon's top tier ED glass with the BDC reticle and wind drift tic's all etched into the glass. It also has a 5 time zoom ratio, for example, going from 4-20X.The MONARCH 3 which I use on many of my hunting rifle's is also very clear with Nikon's special MONARCH coating's on all glass surfaces. the BDC for both can be combined with Spot On and both can have a Custom Turret installed through Spot On. I hope this help's, I think it show's you that in this case you absolutely get what you are paying for.Drop me a note with any question's. Here's a pic of one of my MONARCH 3's.

I can't speak to the Monarch 3 or 5 series but I own a 3-12x44 SF BDC 600 Monarch and a 5-20x44 SF BDC 600 Monarch and both are fantastic scopes.

The only complaint I have is that my 5-20x44 Monarch isn't a Monarch 5 5-20x50 ED SF ABDC!
As much as I'd love to trade up I can't come up with a good enough complaint for my current Monarch to justify the expense.

what would your recommend buying a high magnification monarch 3 6-20 or a lower magnification monarch 5 like a 4-16?
Have you guys had any problems hitting small targets around 300 to 500 yards with the BDC reticle.
Just curious since it seems everyone on the inter webs has an opinion on the BDC even though they probably never used one. Thanks

            Bart,
thanks for you insight on nikon monarch! Is there much difference in glass quality and clarity
            Between the 3 and 5?
Also if you are using a first focal is there a potential of the crosshairs covering a prairie dog at 400 yards?
im going to check out that scope.
            thanks

Combine the ballistic reticle with the Nikon Turrets

We have a Nikon sales rep on here sometimes....perhaps he will chime in with the exact differences.

                Nikon

The 5 will definitely be better with the ED glass and etched BDC reticle.
As for your question about the BDC reticle covering up a prairie dog at 400 yards I do not know first hand if that would occir or not. You can always still use the crosshairs and dial out 400 yards or get a custom turret built to your exact load spec's. I have ones for my .257 wby and .300 Win, they are both very accurate and easy to use.

I'm going to give the monarch 5 a shot. Thanks for the help!
