    Advise on Vortex Scope Please

Hi everyone. This will be my first scope purchase. Does anyone have any experience with this scope? I plan on attaching it to my Ar15 .556 BHW 20'' Barrel. Is 300-500 yards doable? It is the Vortex diamondback HP 4-16x42 dead hold.

    Thanks

Yes that will work fine. What is the twist rate on your barrel?

I used that exact scope on a .270 rifle I had a while back. Good clear optics for the money and covered windage/elevation adjustments made it ideal for hunting and moving through brush. Only ever pushed that rifle out to about 430 yards in the wind and the scope did just fine. Keep in mind that the BDC is not going to work with every load and every rifle, you are still going to have to figure out where your rifle hits at each distance. If you really want precision, a different reticle would be advantageous.

If you are dead set on a BDC optic, I would suggest a Nikon as they seem to be doing something right and their 3x30 BDC was spot on for my AR.

Good. You'll be able to shoot just about any grain without issue. You'll have more consistency with longer bullets (75gr+) at longer distances.

I'm all about vortex, you won't be disappointed. Their lifetime warranty is ridiculous too. If you ever have any issues (I think even if it gets damaged) you can send it back to them and they'll take care of you.

I have a Viper PST 2.5-10x32 FFP. a SPARC, the Solo R/T monocular and two magnifiers - the original VMX3 and the replacement, the VMX3-T. Good stuff, great prices.

My department visited Vortex a few weeks ago, and I learned something I hadn't know before. Each and every product that comes into Vortex is inspected in a process that averages 20 minutes per item.

Not like someone takes it out of the box, looks through it and puts it back in, but collimation is checked by purpose-built machines, tracking, range of adjustments, finish, foreign objects...

This blog post covers the trip, if you're interested:
