    small black spots !?

    Hi.
I got a used Mueller 4-16x50AO Tactical illuminated scope on ebay a few months back.

Now , this my first scope as i am new to shooting.
I went out today the first time to try it . I can see small black spots, mainly around the center. It gets really visible if i turn up the magnification high.
I tried to make a picture, but it hard to see. I wiped the lenses with lens cleaner wet wipes, but just the same.
    Any advice?
    Dirt, damaged coating?

    Thanks

Looks like dust on your lens.

Possibly on the inside of the lens...

It could be the inside tube coating flaking off. Do these black dots move or are they always in the same place?

Well there is problem. Just kidding but I can't see anything wrong on the pictures you've provided. ok I see them now. It could be dirt or dust got in during shipping or just before you used it and noticed it.

If they look like oil spots, could it be that they are small pits in the lens itself?
                Sorry, not sorry.

Most likely spots of grease or oil from inside the scope. Scopes with moving parts inside like an adjustable objective or variable zoom often have a lot of lubrication inside which can find its way onto the lenses. A buddy of mine had a Millett 6-25X LRS scope that was fantastic until a giant glob of grease ended up right in the center of the reticle.

It's probably debris of some sort lodged between lenses. You can either take it off the rifle and smack the bell against a phone book a few times to see if it'll jerk them to the side or send it back to the manufacturer for repair.

Or, if it isn't of bother, you can just ignore it.

Contact the manufacturer to see if they can clean off the grease for a reasonable amount

I went to the link you posted and read the warranty information.

If at any time during the warranty period a Mueller scope is found to have a defect in material or workmanship, Mueller will, at our discretion, repair or replace it free of charge. The warranty is void if damage results from unauthorized repair, alteration, abuse or misuse.

The warranty is transferable and we do NOT require a registration card to be completed however we do require a copy of the original purchase receipt (proof of purchase), which must be from an Authorized Mueller Optics Dealer (sorry no exceptions) .
You might be able to send it in for service.

I called them. As i thought if no receipt no warranty If i send it in, they can quote me the repair cost, or they can replace the scope for a new one for $155.

I will try to solve it on ebay, but no reply yet.
