Scope options for an older AR-7

I have an old AR-7 that I would like to put a scope on. It is one of the original Armalite ones, which does not have an integrated rail like the new Henry models. I would like some advice on how I should mount a rail or rings on the receiver. I need to be able to take off the scope and mount easily so that the action still packs into the stock. I want to be able to carry the mount and a small scope in a backpack, and then assemble it onto the rifle when needed with the screwdriver on my leatherman.
The only thought I have come up with so far is to drill and tap the top of the receiver, which seems very risky.

    Please advise,
    Dick

I have one also and I have not seen an easy way of doing it. You would have to have some machine the top true and tap it for a rail. I would cost more than the gun is worth and would take away from it collator value. I feel you would be better off just getting another 22.

A guy on rfc hooked me up with this incredibly easy/cheap way which is great. Just score the receiver on the sides near the top repeatedly with a sheetrock knife, and after 20 or so minutes you will wear a groove into it which fits weaver style rings. Here's some pics:
