Need Advice on Monstrum Tactical S330P 3x Ultra-Compact Prism Scope

I've said my piece- I've tested it. Just shot with it Sunday.
Listen to who you want. I think the choice is obvious.
It's annoying to me when people claim to know something about a product with no direct experience. But whatever. Nothing personal
It's SERIOUSLY a good optic for $100. Come to the C&R shoot next Sunday at West end and I'll let you mount mine to your rifle and shoot it (if local). I wouldn't believe it if I hadn't checked it out myself. I won't vouch for their other optics, but if I took off the decal, you'd think it was a soviet military optic (besides the adjuster dials look Chinese).

I just got this prism scope. I haven't had any range time with it yet but my initial thoughts are as follows:
* Very solid build.
* Excellent sight picture.
* Very clear lenses.
* It is heavy.
If you want to do apples-to-apples comparison, I'd put it against the Vortex Spitfire 3X. I've used it and that wins slightly IMO but at 3X the cost. I would personally put a lot more stock in the opinion of someone who has owned and used the actual scope (like saki302) than someone who hasn't.
I don't think you can go wrong with the Monstrum for the price & quality. If you don't like it, their website says you can return it hassle-free.
Here's my friend's AR with the Spitfire and mine with the S330P.

I finally got around to shooting my AR15s outdoors at Lytle Creek today. My first time going there and with some friends. Pretty good place except for the "2 guns out at a time" rule. Range master (older gent with a beard) was nice and chatted with us a bit.
Anyway, on to the quick report on the Monstrum S330P. I decided to mount it on my Frankenstein build (Anderson lower & internals, Palmetto upper 1:7 CL) instead of the one pictured above. I kept the illumination off. After bore-sighting/zeroing, I was able to consistently hit a 12"X12" steel plate at 200 yards. I removed the scope from my AR and tried it on a CX4 for 10 rounds and put it back on the AR. It held zero and still hitting the plate consistently at 200 yards. (I would have liked to have a more precise zeroing process but the procedures at Lytle Creek and being with a group of friends was not really ideal.)
As I've stated before, sight picture is very good, as are the lenses. For $100, you really can't go wrong with this scope.
I will be trying it again in about a month, hopefully, at the Pala range. Allow it some time getting knocked around in the rifle bag and see if zero still holds.Comment

Looks like it is probably made by the same folk that make the PA, Vortex etc etc etc.
If so this is a heck of a deal.

If that's the case then it's probably a really good bargain.

I recently got one of their 3-9X40 FFP scopes. For a cheap scope from China it isn't too bad. Image is pretty bright and it has a nice BDC reticle that lines up nicely with 308 out of a 16" barrel. Turrets have nice defined clicks, but turn rather easily. Resolution at extended ranges is not that great, but adequate for shooting out to the realistic limit of a 308. The manual that comes with the scope is substantially better than others I have received with imported scopes. I think the company is definitely trying to put out a quality product within the constraints of a limited budget. I'll post up a brief range report once I have a chance to take it out to the range.

There is a parallax adjustment. I had it set to give the clearest image at that distance, which was actually much clearer than what is indicated in the picture. Taking photos through a rifle scope is pushing the limits of most cheap digital cameras abilities to focus sharply on multiple objects. I had to manually set the focal distance until the reticle was crisp, and the quality of the background image became a bit muddy as a result. While the Monstrum doesn't have the greatest glass out there, it is in fact significantly better than what those pictures show.
Edit: The scope does have a bit of spherical aberration at the edges, but nowhere near the level in the pics. The camera seems to enhance all the worst properties of that scope for some reason. It's actually not that bad in person.Last edited by FMJBT; 10-31-2015, 4:49 PM.U.S. Navy (Retired) 1994-2015Comment

Haven't had the time to go to the range again. So no new updates.
When I purchased mine, it didn't come with a lens cover. But out of the blue, the customer service e-mailed me saying their new batch now come with covers and they sent me one free of charge. I received it the following day via USPS.
At $80 it's even more of a steal. I might just get the FDE version. Thanks for the heads-up.Comment

I 'm not very experienced with ACOGS, Aimpoint or Evotech, but I purchased Monstrum Tactical S330P @ Nov. 2016 looking a bit help to my eyes. In the last 3 months, I changed my feeling twice from crap to "very nice and back. After I receive the first unit, I took it out to zero and test it on my AR15 and found that the screws on the mount got loose and the glass got scratched after 80 rounds. I replaced it (very quickly) thru Amazon and on the second unit, I remember to place some blue Loctite on the mount screws to verify that it will be stable. In the next couple trips after zero it at 50 yards, I was able to hit 200y steel plate constantly and 300yard when I was really focusing. It was "nice" and I'm was very happy with it. After 3-4 trips and about 250 rounds (or more...) the green light elimination (my favorite) is off for good. The Monstrum scope is back in USPS to the vendor to repair/replace.
In summary, all the above comments correct. When it works the glass is clear and functional and it extend my effective hit range to 300 yards. It's a bit on heavy side but since it shot walk from parking to the range , it not big issue for me. Let hope that 3rd unit will be the charm. If I will buy it again - probably not.Comment

I shot a few weeks ago with the 3-9X40 FFP I posted above. It was actually a pretty frustrating experience. The scope adjustments do seem to track accurately and hold zero, but the parallax adjustment is nearly useless. You can adjust it so the target is more or less in focus, but beyond around 200 yards you cannot adjust for parallax error (and there is PLENTY of error). At 640 yards I had set the parallax for the "infinity" setting, and with a slight movement of my head could get the reticle to shift several feet in either direction from the target. This scope has a very generous eyebox, which is normally a good thing. With this scope however it seems to work against it due to the large parallax error. Sometimes a tight eyebox can cause you to hold a very specific position behind the scope which can reduce parallax. The large exit pupil and wide eye relief range of this scope let you see clearly through it from a wide range of positions, and each of them will cause significant shifting of the reticle in relation to the target. I really did want to like this scope, but the parallax error despite the adjustment for it will keep this scope on short range guns like a 22 or maybe my kids airsoft sniper rifle.U.S. Navy (Retired) 1994-2015Comment
