I wasn't making suggestions to buy a PA scope.

That aside, at 3x magnification you might notice a faint shadow from a front sight, at 4x and above it's not there. With lower magnification like 2x, you'll definitely be seeing it, and 1x would frankly be a mess. You have to remember that regardless of whatever marketing nonsense that the optic manufacturers would like you to believe, if they're using a standard configuration(lenses in a tube like most scopes, and then changing the focal length to alter the zoom), you will not get a true 1x image out of it, period(this is why you see some manufacturers labeling them as 1.1x, or not even trying to claim them as 1x and instead just going with 1.5 on the low end). Would the not quite 1x distortion be an issue for you shooting at a target a few yards away? Probably not. Would it provide an annoying sight picture with a front sight up close? Yep.

A good scope for $200 or less, for a .308, out to 600 yards? I can't make a suggestion for that.

As far as the front sight, like I said it's not an issue unless you're going with something that has a lower magnification that starts at 1-3x or so. I wouldn't personally want to use any 1-4, 1-6, 1.5-6, etc. with a fixed front sight.

I don't know that much about scopes either. Redfield makes good scopes. They are owned by Leupold, made in U.S.A. (Oregon), and have a lifetime warranty. Simmons has good optics for the price, but they are not as well made as Redfield or Leupold scopes. Simmons is made in South Korea. I do not like Nikon. I think Redfield and Simmons has better optics/lenses. Nikon is made in the Philippines. The exterior of the Nikon looks better than the exterior of the Simmons.

                I suggest a Redfield

You will notice a fuzzy outline of the front sight through the scope, and some of the sight picture below the cross-hairs won't be visible. For light target shooting, plinking, and general hunting that should not be a problem.
