Help me decide on RMR

I'm having a difficult time picking a rmr for my g17. It's between the rm06 and rm07. This gun will be carried so I'm thinking more about a defensive application but I also would like to use it for target shooting past 15 yards which I inderstand can be difficult with the larger MOA.


Who can help explain the better suited application for the rm06 and rm07

The RM07 dot is going to cover approximately:

Yards / Inches
10 / 0.65
15 / 0.98
25 / 1.63
50 / 3.25

The RM06 will be roughly half that, but the dot isn't going to be quite as easy to pick up. That being said, the RM06's dot is still 1.6x larger than the dot on the average Aimpoint...

I'm not sold on an RMR for defensive carry - for me, at least, irons are far faster to acquire. I've tried a miniature red dot - a FastFire II - on three guns, an XD45 5", a 1911 Government and a Glock 19, and in all cases, it took longer to get the pistol just right to see the dot. I'm sure this could be overcome by muscle memory, YMMV.

At self-defense distances, I'm not sure of the benefit of optics.

I went with the 07 due to my astigmatism, found it much easier to run the larger dot on a lower setting, too much blooming with a smaller dot turned up (for my eyes).

How about cowitness iron sights? Wouldnt that be best of both worlds?

Im interested as well because Im eventually getting a G20 sidearm during hunting, im fine with irons but i would like to pair a rmr with 6" barrel as well for handgun hunting.

A bigger dot should be faster on target. I would go with the 07 for a Glock.

For defensive carry, the bigger dot has easier acquisition. For target shooting, the smaller dot has less target obstruction. You'll have to make a compromise.

What I would personally do for myself is get the smaller dot and then increase the brightness for carry so it's easier to see. That will consume batteries faster though.

I started with the 07 and switched to the 06 and couldn't be happier.

I also have a 2MOA dot (PA-MDS/G17/6sec) and don't find the slightly smaller dot size any harder to deal with than the 06.

Finding the dot on presentation has more to do with the presentation itself than the dot size. Plan on a learning curve of at least a few thousand rounds no matter which size dot you end up with.

Need a big old ghost ring/racker on the back dovetail. Look through that and your red dot is always there.
