If for plinking/target shooting and no hunting put anything that gets your fancy but stay away from BSA(back slowly away), Barska and the other super cheap, junk scopes.

Depends on how much is "not too much" and what you will be using it for.

SWFA, Vortex Diamondback, and Leupold VX-2 are generally nice performers with a tight budget in mind.

Zeiss Conquests are good, no question. But for this application, it might be a little much of an expenditure when a Leupold or Redfield would do the trick.
