Leopold 3X9X40 duplex reticle non-AO if you plan to hunt. OR the American made Redfield in the same specs.
If for plinking/target shooting and no hunting put anything that gets your fancy but stay away from BSA(back slowly away), Barska and the other super cheap, junk scopes.
A 30cal will reach out and touch them. A 50cal will kick their butt.

Leupold VX-1 or Redfield Revolution 3x9x40 if hunting.

      KISS.

Depends on how much is "not too much" and what you will be using it for.

SWFA, Vortex Diamondback, and Leupold VX-2 are generally nice performers with a tight budget in mind.

Agreed. Either of these scopes is perfect for this application. And they're $199, including shipping.

Zeiss Conquests are good, no question. But for this application, it might be a little much of an expenditure when a Leupold or Redfield would do the trick.

There is a Calgunner selling a Zeiss Conquest Z-plex reticle for $560.00. New about $610.00 on Amazon! Great scope. Bring him an offer!

Ouch...that's a lot of money when a Revolution 3-9x40 Accu-Range reticle can be had for $209 with shipping. That's quite good enough for .30-06 and even 7mm Rem Mag.

Besides, you can get brand-new Conquest 3-9x40 Z-Plexes (their name for duplex) from EuroOptic all day for $299 + shipping.

You can get a leupold vx1 for 209 or less as well, and it's much nicer than the redfield.
