I have tried just about every forward mount made for the M14/M1A.
For the longest time I ran the UltiMAK M8. The M8 will let you co-witness your irons through an Aimpoint, or other RDS that sit really low.
Today, I run the Scout Hand Guard "SHG". It does everything the M8 did, but it's lighter, cooler running, and you can add short accessory rails if you wish.
Here it is on my 16.25" M14 action, and in a Birch E2 stock.
I can not co-witness the irons through the Comp M4, but that's not a problem for me.
