    Leupold optics decision.....

From my other thread I narrowed it down to 5 scopes...please let me know which would be best for 200-500 yards...and quality. Going to go on my SPR build and m1a.

Leupold VX-III 4.5-14x50mm in Fine Duplex
Leupold VX-III 3.5-10x50mm in Fine Duplex
    Leupold Mark 2 4-12x40mm T2 Adjustable in Mil-dot
    Bushnell Elite 6500 2.5-16x42 in Mil-Dot
TR20-2: Trijicon AccuPoint 3-9x40 Riflescope, Mil-Dot Crosshair with Amber Dot

Let me know what is the best for its price...

I'm not a big fan of 50mm objectives unless you move up to higher magnification. I'd go with the VX-III 4.5-14x40 LR with the side focus and 30mm tube. You'll have more than enough windage and elevation for 500yds but won't need to add a cheek rest.

I like the VX-III but I would recommend the MK2 for the price and the distance you are shooting.

If we can be of any help feel free to ask.

It is pretty hard to argue against Leupold and their great customer suppport. There is though some street buzz that Leupold will replace/upgrade the VXIII line Real Soon Now, announcement expected before the SHOT Show. Perhaps you should put off the decision to find out what the new line is, or where the prices go for the discontinued scopes.

+1 to Trapper and not liking the 50mil objective. Do not get that you will have to get high rings. Out to 500 yards what are you going to shoot at that distance? Small squirrels you might need that much power. A fixed 10 power would do that but we're working on the scopes on the list.

The Mk 2 or the Accupoint price point would make the difference to me.
I move slow but I make up for it by shooting poorly.

Yes, the VXIII and VXL are being discontinued, and will be replaced by the VX3 and VX3L, IIRC.

You can get some pretty good deals on VXIII scopes if you look around - people are starting to discount them.

To answer the question, the best quality of the scopes you mention would be the Accupoint and the Elite 6500. For a semi-auto (i.e. SHTF) at the ranges mentioned I would lean to the lighter, trimmer (and illuminated) Accupoint.

thanks guys. I'm looking at some accupoints with the mil-dots...but I'm trying to so hard to find a used NF or a high end scope.
