PA 1-6x ACSS [Formerly: Let's talk magnifiers and mounts...]

edit: PA 1-6x zeroing comments and whatnot on post #18: http://www.calguns.net/calgunforum/s...4&postcount=18

I've got an Aimpoint PRO setup on a cantilevered mount (absolute cowitness) and generally shoot NTCH (or nose close to charging handle, at least). I'm willing to spend up to $250, for a 3x or 4x magnifier and flip mount (QD preferred, but not necessarily a deal killer).

I've got a little over 4.25" from the lens cap on my Aimpoint to the CH (photo below), so eye relief is a bit of a concern.

The Vortex VMX-3T seems like it work, since the 2.2" eye relief seems like it would be right on point for shooting NTCH (or thereabouts). That being said, I have no idea why the mount flips to the left instead of the right...

Any comments and/or suggestions would be appreciated. Thanks!

That magnifier works good, just flip it the other way so it swings to the right. It retails for less than 2 bills as well...

How's the ergonomics on the lock-release button with it facing forward? Guessing that there's no way to reverse the button itself...

It's ok for me, i just press the lock with my index finger and swing it with my thumb...nothing technical.

When I ran a 3x, it was the Aimpoint and I used their QD mount. Worked great since I didn't want the extra weight hanging off my rifle when not using it.

Ended up ordering the Vortex. I would've preferred the Aimpoint and a QD mount, and I almost went with a Burris, but the good reviews on the Vortex and the $150 price point with free two-day shipping on Amazon sold me on it.

Got mine on Amazon a few days ago when it was on sale for ~$130 shipped.

That's practically half of MSRP. Awesome deal!

Well... that was a failed experiment, sadly. Didn't think about the fact that adding a magnifier would magnify my astigmatism problems. Turned my 4moa blobby dot (which should be 2moa, if my eyes didn't) into three separate, overlapping blobby dots that totally about 6moa. Tried it out at the range and couldn't do better than a 9moa group at 100 yards, even though I was able to consistently get 2.5-3.0 with irons and the unmagnified RDS.

I will say that the glass was super clear, and the button being up front wasn't a hindrance, though.

Sorry to hear. I'm reading that the new Aimpoint T2 has a very crisp 2moa dot that is supposed to bloom minimally when magnified.

I think it's more my eyes than the optic. Gotta love an astigmatism.

Makes sense. Ever considered a 1-4x scope?

I'm actually going to go with a PA 1-6, I think. I'd prefer a Trijicon Accupoint (no batteries!), but the cost and reticle options make it not worth it to me. Maybe if they end up making one with a FFP reticle with BDC in the future.

Sorry to hear that the VMX3T didn't work out for you - when I bought mine, I pulled one of each magnifier we sold out of inventory, and played with them all, and bought the Vortex VMX3. The mount that comes with the VMX3T is an improvement over the swing mount on the VMX3.

A 1-4x or a 1-6x is a viable alternative for those of us with eye issues, and there are some excellent products available.

I remember as a kid going to Western Auto with my Dad and seeing maybe four riflescopes in the case - the choices now are almost overwhelming.
