Boom. $299 on close out. Its a $450 scope normally. My dad, my buddy, and I all have one. Glass is clear, it tracks well, and has a 30mm tube. It is not FFP, but your not going to find a FFP for that price. The reticle isn't fantastic, but its not bad either. But at least the BDC is in MOA and the turrets are in MOA. I have been able to use the BDC to measure how far I was on a hit and make the correction on the turret.

I was picking off clays at 550 yards using this scope and I had no problem seeing them.

I was in the same boat as you last year and I bought this over the SWFA strictly for the variable power aspect. If you don't go with this scope, the SWFA is your next best bet.

I would also look at the BURRIS line up. If we can be of help let us know.

Haven't looked too much into this but check out redfield's line. May not be the same glass from leupold but they are under the same roof up in Oregon.

get the fixed magnification as stated above. Swfa fixed or burris tactical 10x fixed are both fitting in what you want. If fixed 10x is good enough for military snipers, it's good enough for you. Variabe mag is not as necessary as you're thinking it is. In fact it is probably better to learn on fixed. I'm no expert but I've been researching similar stuff.

The Burris fixed 10x is fine if you just can’t afford to spend the money on the SWFA. The biggest detractor on that scope for me is it has no parallax adjustment.

I also much prefer 30mm tubes over the 1” tube of the Burris.

I'm not going to recommend a cheap optic but, you can look here to find a selection within your price range.
