    optic recommendation

I just recently finished my 80% lower and just purchased a stag 6h upper for it. I was looking around online at what people where using for their optics, since that's my final purchase to complete this rifle, and it seemed a lot of people favored the nikon m223 scope.
What do the numbers after the model mean? Nikon m223 _-_x_. Can someone help me understand what I'm reading and what I might want for my rifle? Any recommendations and all advice welcomed!

What do you want to do with the rifle?
      What's your budget?

The first two numbers is your magnification range. How many times the images is magnified. The number after the "x" is the size of the objective lens.

People put all type of optics on at platform rifles. Application would really help anyone make a recommendation.

Thanks! As for application I want to shoot long range with it (500 yards). My budget is 600 bucks for glass and rings.

TBH I have 2 Leupold Mark 4 LRT, one is the 1699$ 8.5-25 illuminatee TMR reticule, then I have a $1400 ACOG 4x with tritium red chevron 556 BDC, the 500$ EOtech EXPS3.... and Im still not satisfied which has me looking at Primary Arms and some Vortex optics.... I couldve saved a lot of money

They each have their purpose though, got a leupold on my ar10, other on m1a, acog for ar, eotech for all but mainly ar10. After testing Im seeing the advantages to having a low mag scope like 1-6 with an effective reticule like PAs or new Vortex StrikeEagle... especially for AR.

If your on a budget the Leupold Mark AR, Burris AR, Nikon AR seam nice I have not tested one, and the Bushnell AR are OK.

i have a bushnell Ar 1-4 on my ar with a burris pepr mount, for the price its a nice scope, its bdc is spot on, i shot it out to 600 yrds with 55 gr black hills 223 and it was on target, but heres the bad, at that range the magnification really isn't enough, i'd say 300-400 yds would be good but beyond that its hard to get a precise shot. i may go to a 1-6 or 8 and keep the 1-4 for my 300 blackout.

For a tad over $600 I can get you into a Vortex PST 4-16.

For your application its a great option because of its feature set: good amount of internal adjustment, matching turret/reticle system available in either MIL/MIL or MOA/MOA, zero stop, and an illuminated reticle (if that's even important).

As others have suggested, the Nikon M223 and MK AR from Leupold are well built, however as you grow as a shooter I think that you find the features lacking. Then again you may not.

                Whatever route you decide, enjoy!

Does anyone know of any scopes the have a bdc for 69 or 77 grain bullets? All the scopes I'm seeing are for 55 grain. I reload so I plan on taking advantage of the 1/8 twist on my upper and use heavier projectiles or I would like to at least.

For just starting out, this is a very good scope with all the basic functions you'd need to learn and shoot:

It is $699. The SWFAs tend to be very reliable and decent for the money. It won't have very many frills, but you really don't need a whole lot for just 500 yards.

If you are really into the BDC stuff, which I am not, I'd look at some of the Nikon stuff as they seem to have some nifty software that supports their BDC scopes.

                          optic recommendation

Most 18" with push a 69gr/77gr around 2700-2800 fps, using a 50 yard zero you can be on out to 600 yards with this optic and can dial in past that. If you went with 75gr TAP 5.56 you would be on out 900+ I hope this helps.
Quality rifle scopes including LPVO 1-6x, 1-8x variable power, and long-range optics. Primary Arms ACSS reticles, Vortex, Leupold, and more brands.

So 77gr will go out to 600 yards but a 75gr can go 900+? I've got to see a YouTube video of you consistently getting hits from an 18" AR at 900+ yards.

I am not saying it will not go that far I am saying it will line up out to 600 on BDC after that you can just dial in. But yes the 75 gr Hornady is far more efficient and lines up with BDC out to 1000
75gr BC .395 its what I shoot. 77gr SMk is only at .362
