Airsoft Sights on an AR?

Today, at the range, a young-ish guy was trying to sight in a FACOG at 50 yards, off the bench. Since they weren't close to getting it dialed in after several full mags, the owner telling me that he bought it "because [his] upper says Zombie Killer on it," and overhearing him tell his dad that it was a $90 optic... did these guys have a legit chance of getting this thing zeroed?

Yeah, that's what I figured. I'd say that I feel bad, but the fact that the guy was telling his dad that his upper cost $700 and that he wants it to be accurate enough to "shoot a penny at 100 yards" (the look on his dad's face at that was pretty priceless)... with an $88 Fake ACOG made for Airsoft guns is just sad. Dude's expectations just aren't grounded in reality.

That's not an airsoft scope it's a Vector Optics Goliath 4x32 sight and it's designed to go on rifles..

Vector Optics is OEM for a lot of scope companys, that scope should be able to be dialed in just like any other acog or 4x scope.

It actually looks like an Aim Sports Prismatic scope, based on the picture the OP posted.

You know, I didn't actually check the brand or model name on his actual sight. I just Googled something like "fake acog with fiber optic iron sights" and that popped up, and had the right price. What he had on there looked exactly like what that, though - 4x32mm ACOG-ish sight with a BDC reticule, a long fiber optic/iron sight setup on top, three adjustment knobs on the top and side, and the side-mounted Pic rails (which probably serve no real purpose whatsoever). I have to assume that whatever was on there had the word "zombie" in the name somewhere based on his comment regarding the "Zombie Killer" upper.

I have that same scope on my ar 15... I couldnt get it on paper until I used a laser boresight. Then I dialed it in perfectly. I was shooting on point all day yesterday with it...

Never ever discount human error.
The vast majority of gun owners haven't the slightest clue on how to zero irons, what more an optic?

So a guy got a $90 optic, it's airsoft? There are guys out there that have $30-$40 Barska optics on their ARs that hit really close to POA . For how long and will it hold zero, who knows . Don't believe me? Next time you see one, stand infront it. If it's really airsoft crap, you'll be fine. If not, oh well!

There are optics out there that are under $100 that work really well. Such as Primary Arms, Bushnell TRS25, Vortex Strikefire. They kill just as dead as 1-3K optic.

The quality of the rifle has what exactly to do with whether or not the rifle can kill you if you're standing in front of it?

He wasn't talking about a PA, Bushnell, or Vortex optic. He was talking about what looks like a piece of crap that after multiple magazines wasn't closed to dialed in, off of a bench. There are two possibilities that come to mind.

The people operating the rifle had no idea what they were doing and either adjusted or mounted it wrong.

The optic was a piece of crap that may not have been tracking correctly to start with, or simply broke at some point.

Considering that the 30-40 dollar barskas and such fall apart on occasion due to the massive recoil of an AR chambered in 5.56, I find it likely that it was just a piece of crap.
