    How I clean my glass

Just wanted to make a how-to of how I clean my optics after I saw a friend rub away at his dirt covered aimpoint objective lens with his shirt after a range session.

By all means wipe away when the situation warrants it - i.e. heavy mud, snow in window, when your view is obstructed, etc.

Video may make it seem like a long process but it usually takes ~2 minutes/optic for me. Please make sure you have a waterproof optic with everything sealed up before you do this lol.

Just use the Zeiss cleaning kit that comes with some of their scopes. That brush is really good for getting your lens clean.

Make sure you don't use an ammonia based product.

I'd be scared of the rust that would form.

Yeah, plus a few other miscellaneous items that come in a little tactical pouch you can wear. Ultimately, what I do to keep my lenses clean and unscratched is that I just use Tenebraex ARDs and take it off if the situation warrants. If I bust and ARD, no biggy. That keeps it pretty clean too, so periodically, I just need to get some light dust out of the housing which I do with the brush, and that works just fine. So I use ARDs primarily for protection and prevention rather than to reduce glare or hide reflection.

Lots of people use Butler Creek caps because they are cheap and look cool, but I would not wish those on my worst enemy as they just don't work well.

Trijicon Lens Pen that came with my ACOG or compressed air to brush/blow away dust and lint.

Followed up by Bausch and Lomb lens cleaning wipes to clean; then, Lens Pen to wipe clear after cleaning solution dries.

If I don't have any cleaning wipes; I'll just exhale on the lens to fog it up and clean with Lens Pen.

I use the Zeiss cleaning solution (by Nanofilm) with a piece of soft cotton cloth when it is necessary. The Zeiss solution seems to leave a better streak-free finish compared to others or DIY solutions. It also doesn't create a complete dry surface which can become static and attract debris. The rest of the time, I use a Giottos Rocket-Air and a clean brush.

There seems to be different versions of the Zeiss Solution on the current market. The one I have been using is produced by Nanofilm in Cleveland, Ohio. Ymmv, etc.

Lot's of good cleaning info here, but use compressed air judiciously as it can push moisture past seals and go where you may not want it to go.

Purosol Optical cleaner and micro fiber cloths.

If it has a lens, this is what I use to clean it. I also clean CD's and DVD's with it when my darling daughter wants to test the theory that fingerprints won't bother the laser.

Also if using the canned air, do short little bursts. If you spray continuously it creates condensation and you start spraying out very moist air.
