1-4 or 1-6 variable scope options?

Hello all, looking for a close quarters to mid range scope for use on my PTR. So far I've been interested in the Primary Arms 1-6 ACSS and wondered if Anyone has experience with one of these on a .308? looking to set mine up as a "do it all" rifle and the magnification on this seems perfect, reticle is interesting to me too.

I'm open to suggestions too so if you know of or have a similar powered variable scope then I'm all ears.

This gun is my first "Modern" rifle and my first project so I'm trying to gather as much information as possible.

I have the SWFA SS 1-6 and it's great.

Very clear glass, amazing Mil reticle.

Shot out to 400m with it so far and it works really well. Very durable (haven't dropped it yet though)

1 grand, but its not too outrageous. Running it in Larue lt-104

Mark 6 1-6, Vortex Razer HD 1-6, Bushnell tactical 1-6 or 1.5-8x are all excellent choices. Consider the weight of these scopes before you buy. If your looking to be light a typical good quality optic and ADA mount will set you back 2 pounds minimum.

Take a look at VCOG. It is a variable 1-6X illuminated scope and has bullet drop compensation that is very accurate (furthest I shot was 585 yards).

At 1 or 1.5X it is very easy to pick up targets and shoot with both eyes open. It also has a pretty good lever that makes it very easy and fast to change magnification.

There's a proper tool for everything. I have more than my share of high end, higher magnification scopes - which I love - that are not going on ARs that I'll mostly use from contact distance to maybe 400-500 tops. For that kind of usage, the 1-6x scopes do an excellent job. Even for my middle-aged eyes, a good 1-6x scope gives a fantastic sight picture even in the longer distances (no I'm not talking about 800+ yards).

I've personally find the 1-x scopes much more versatile than the ACOGs.

I have the same setup. I can toss it between a couple different rifles, depending on what and how I plan to shoot. I've got a log to keep track of zero changes. Dope isn't too big an issue, The trajectory for anything from .223 to .308 is close enough that for anything past 200 yards I add a Mil for every extra 100 yards, for drop. Keeps me on man sized targets out to the necessary range for multigun stuff. If I need to be more precise I can look at a drop table.

Observational note..
After reading through this thread in its entirety and other threads here, I still believe that if you want the best optics info for the AR, the AR15.Com Optics forum is the better place to go. There's just better info there without all the background noise, IMO.

I have a PTR 91fr, from the specs i read about the acss it should fit without disturbing the charging handle.

My price range is probably around 500. between work, school, having a girlfriend and having my laptop stolen I don't have as much free time as id like and coming on here on my phone isn't exactly ideal. I'm replying in order and to anyone/everyone that asked
