you should buy a mount for it. cost is like 40 bucks. mount your iphone to the vortex.

For what it's worth, I've tried a number of different (and expensive) digiscoping options with my spotter and this relatively cheap setup turned out to be the most useful...

It's a bit bulky and seems awkward, but works with pretty much any phone or small camera out there, so it's very adaptable. It has simple controls that allow you to fine tune the alignment of the camera to the lens of the scope.

Board member here was selling a 3-d printed one for $15. I will definitely look into the smart optics one. Adaptability and fine tuning is key. How about you guys showing some lone range shots in action? Can you see the vapor trails?

If you're spotting mostly inline with the shooter on a relatively calm day, you should be able to spot trace. It also depends on the quality of the spotter too - there's a lot of crap out there without the optical quality to reliably spot trace.

What's the setup you have there? I was curious how other mount a 1913 rail on the spotting scope. You have a laser on that too that is co-aligned?

Just placed an order. Looks to be highly adjustable.

What kind of spotting rig do you have? Even without the digiscoping set up, it still looks crazy.

That digiscoping rig is pretty cool. I might get one. Only $40.

That looks like some cheap Euro set up to me. Here is a link to their products at a retailer.

Try zooming in your phone, you'll get rid of the black ring

It's a Hensoldt Spotter 60 with a Vectronix Terrapin LRF (PLRF-05). The LRF is co-axially aligned with a funky picatinny mount that allows adjustment of windage and elevation (basically an Elcan mount without the optic). I look forward to replacing it with the new Spuhr PLRF mount.

Yeah, it's pretty expensive but considering that I've gone up and down much of the line of spotters and LRFs over the years, if I knew then what I know now, I would have just saved the money and got this rig in the first place. What's nice about it is that the Spotter 60 is without a doubt the highest quality spotter you can get for ELR shooting, which is predominantly what I do. It has spots for up to five picatinny rails, so it's very adaptable, which lead me to the idea of slaving a quality LRF to the scope. By properly aligning the two, I can range whatever is centered in the Spotter's view just by pressing a button. It also has the advantage of allowing me to scan with the LRF's wide FOV at 5x as the Spotter's 20-60x can be a bit much for closer targets (this is why some guys mount RDS on them).

A step up would be to use a PLRF-10 instead as it has a port that a fire control cable can be plugged into, allowing ranging without jostling the whole setup. Basically because the Terrapin doesn't have that capability, I have to be extra careful when pressing down on the fire button. But the difference in price wasn't worth it to me. Even better would be to replace it with a PLRF-25C - not only is it smaller, has the firing cable option but also has Bluetooth that will send data to Field Firing Solutions, giving the exact range and location in GPS coords. But that would cost twice as much as the Spotter and I'm not calling in arty or CAS anymore

That picture if full of win.... Including the Manfrotto gear head its all sitting on, always wanted one of those...

I'm still using one of their ball heads, which is nice, but easy to loose the entire site picture if you are not paying attention / supporting the scope when you unlock.

That Vectronix Terrapin is also something else... you sir have good taste in support gear.
