    Eotech Reticle Replacement?

I just e-mailed this to EoTech, but am impatient. Was hoping someone here could give me an answer.

I have a Holographic sight that was made in June 2000, unknown model number. It takes N type batteries and has a reticle that looks like a target (a dot inside two larger circles). The outer circle appears to be independent from the inner circle and dot. Is it possible to have the reticle switched to one that has just one circle and dot. Thanks!

Your email is unclear so can you clarify? The EOTech sights come with only 2 reticules:

    1) single dot (very small)

    2) circle with dot

What do you mean that it's independent of from the inner circle??

You sure you have an Eotech Holosight and not a Bushnell Holosight?

It is an eotech. I did some research and believe that it is a model 520. The 520 was made for archery and has two circles around the dot. Kind of hard to explain. Just imagine the second picture above with an additional circle around it. Even though it is an archery sight, it works fine on my .223 rifle. I just want to know if I can have the reticle changed out to one of the more conventional designs.

Ive seen that model, the outer ring acts like a rear sight and correct thats for a Bow but I guess you can mount it to a rifle. Why not

There were 2 archery model generations - the 420 and the 520.

The 420 required a tool to open the battery compartment, while the 520 didn't, as well as a few other changes. Some of the archery sights only had one axis of sight adjustment for windage, relying on the mount for the elevation.

No, they don't change the reticles.

AFAIK, Eotech says that they can't change recticles. You would need to sell yours and buy a new one.

              Oh, and nice necropost 818.

              edit: from the Eotech Website.

Unfortunately, no, we cannot switch the reticle image in our sights. Changing the image would require complete housing replacement, and this would be more expensive than purchasing a new sight. Additionally, with the new sight you would have both the latest revision level and a new two year warranty.

Do you want an AOW or C&R SBS/SBR in CA?

I don't think that is possible, or at least, they won't do it. I couldn't find the reference, but this question had been asked and answered before.

Interestingly, the first generation Holosights, made by Eotech and sold starting 1996 under the Bushnell name, had changeable reticles. Extra reticles were originally $20 each, but the prices went up considerably after production stopped, and are nearly impossible to find now, as are the 1st gen sights.

These didn't meet military specifications (the army chose the Aimpoint M68 instead), and they redesigned it for the 2nd gen to be more compact, sturdier, more waterproof, have better battery life, and be NV compatible. That was when Eotech started selling them along with Bushnell.

For those who are interested in Holosight trivia, here's a fascinating review of the original Bushnell model:
