    AIMPOINT Mounting questions

    Hi,

I recently mounted an Aimpoint Comp M3 on a Bobro Lower 1/3 co-witness, after that I zeroed in my Magpul BUIS {Front & Back) sights just perfect at 50 yards.

But as soon as I went to the 100 yard my eyesight; due to age was not able to see clearly center mass. So I thought to get some eye relief from an Aimpoint 3x magnifier. Now I made sure that I got the LaRue FTS mount Tall for lower 1/3 match up with the RDS. I know that some people are not able to view the front sight 3x and above which I get it, but some have posted that they are able to see front sight perfectly and I have asked how. No answer as of yet.

So I thought it may be possible that my RDS is mounted to far forward on the scope rings {seen on the picture) and if I mount the rings back to the rear will that help me with being able to see front sight a little better.

Otherwise I will just have to trust my RDS is zeroed perfectly and just shoot.

    Thanks for the help.

The 3x will blur the front sight to irrelevancy so only the dot will show.
RD only sans 3x will allow view of both. That's the point.
I prefer a straight on co-witness myself with an RDS. I own an M4 Aimpoint.

Honestly, I'm having a difficult understanding what you're asking... but i'll answer what i "think" you're asking.

You would never use the 3x magnifier with your front magpul sights... the magpul sights require the front and back to work together. You have to remove or flip over the magnifier in order to use those sights. They are useless with the magnifier on.

If your red dot is zeroed at 50 yards... it is zeroed at 50 yards only. The way the bullet travels, at 100 yards it's off by a couple of inches (vertically)... which for all intents and purposes, doesn't really matter.

You can either zero your magpul sights and then move your red dot to match the magpul sights when viewing down them... or the other way around.

      Hope that helps.

        Great info HK Dave,

Apologies if I wasn't clear. I was just making sure that the scope ring was mounted properly to the RDS. I have seen some mounted in different positions and there is a lot of regurgitated bad info out there. But I did find the following video pretty interesting.

I guess I have to trust that my RDS is zeroed... back to the range lol

You can position the RDS as far forward or rearward as you want inside the rings. I prefer it spaced out evenly but you might have considerations to make when mounting it up with the 3x magnifier
