Idk about the last question. But I do know-Nikon scope coupled with "spot on" program is a swell combination. It allows you to fine tune the bdc to your application.
Currently I'm running a 3x9x40 prostaff bdc on ar15. Good quality for what it is. But I haven't yet had the chance to put it throught the paces. My next trip out I plan on spinning the turrets and stretch out a lil.
Mind you-this is no target style scope. Use as intended, and it will satisfy its purpose. -
Nikon's Spot On Ballistic Program
Dak, Nikon's Spot On Program is easy to use and dial in for your particular shooting data. I can assure you it is very accurate as well. I have blown up soda cans at 500 and 600 yards using the program and my Nikon BDC reticle.
I also hunt Ok/Tx and thus far my families rifles have yet to not bring down a deer with one shot when using Nikon's BDC scopes and Spot On.
Just a fyi, I do freelance PR/Shooting Event's for Nikon so I get to teach a lot of folks about using BDC/Spot On and it's amazing seeing their reaction when they ping steal at 500+ yards and even more so, blowing up a 4inch jar of Tannerite at 600!
Drop me a note if you have any question's.
I don't work directly for Nikon and I don't do any sales, but I am happy to help out when I can.

Custom Turret
E., I have 2 Custom Turret's for my Win. model 70 Coyote, one for 55 gr. coyote stoppers and one for 90 gr deer loads.
Granted, it does take a trip to the range when I swap them out but that is only before deer season and then the 55 gr. turret's right after deer season.
I also chrongraphed my load just to increase the Custom Turret accuracy. Measuring mid scope to mid bore will also increase your overall longrange accuracy.Comment

I would say it would be an excellent choice. We have had nothing but great feedback on Nikon's BDC reticle.

Never seen that 'spot on' before, I'm gonna have to do some research, looks interesting. Wish some more scopes in higher price range would do this sort of thing. Looking to spend uo to 1500 and having by bcc perfectly calibrated to my load would be great.Comment

Timbo, That's a hunk of money you are spending and it gives you a ton of choices. A scope worth checking out is Nikon's new for 2015 top of their line
MONARCH 7 4-16x50 SF BDC XR Turret. Best of both worlds, BDC reticle and a Custom Turret designed around the ammo you shoot. This scope has a 30mm tube, incredibly clear glass and backed bu Nikon's No Fault Warranty. Defintely worth taking a look at.Comment
