Re-heating Kydex?

I got a mag holster, one of the bags doesnt "lock" in since the kydex got twisted or something, Is it possible to re-heat kydex so i can maybe re-shape it to hold the mag better? Or after it cools is that it?

I'm pretty sure you can reheat and reshape over and over again.

It is a thermoset plastic so yes you can heat and cool as many times as you want, so long as you don't burn it. Heat away!

Alright cool, whats best for heating it? Heat gun im assuming, think a blow dryer would work? haha

I've used a blow dryer before to work out a small kink, takes longer than a heat gun though.

Provided you have nothing else on the mag holder that might melt or burn, heat the oven to 350 degrees. Put down some tinfoil. Put it the mag holder for ONLY 1 or 2 minutes. Put on some gloves and take it out. Immediately put your mag in the pouch and twist it back to normal.

I recently did a test project and made a kydex knife sheath. Kydex at 350 degrees will want to lose all of its existing shape in 10 minutes and will go back to a flat sheet. That won't happen with rivets in your mag holder but you will lose the shape you have now and you might make it worse. So I would try 1 or 2 minutes. If that's not enough then let it cool and then try 3 minutes, then 4 if that doesn't work. It cools pretty quickly so you can use some trial and error and start small and work up.

You might want to watch some Youtube vids on making kydex sheaths, holsters,etc because the real key is pressing the hot pliable kydex around the form that you want (mag, gun, knife, etc) and the presses are not easy to come by. The press is the tool you need to form it properly. The main point is don't melt the kydex too much because if you lose too much of its shape you're in trouble. Just enough is what you want. Go slow.

Toaster oven worked best for me. Heat guns are good for spot heating but may not provide enough overall heating of the material. Also make sure it is in fact Kydex, and not some injection molded plastic.

Since it is already made, u dont want to put it into the oven. U will risk flattening out. U can use a blow dryer or a heat gun. A blow dryer will work but it may take longer. If u r using a heat gun. Warm up the area but make sure to keep moving it around or it will create overheated spots. That will lead to the kydex being shiny. Also dont heat it too much or it will loosen a lot n wont hold the mag in place.

When it gets flimsy, u can mold it. Its recommended to use a press with foam but assuming u dont have one, try to press it down with your finger without the mag in it.

Without the mag? I thought my best bet was to leave the mag in it and try to pinch it down in areas, how loose will the kydex get? i dont wanna mess up the good side since it locks in pretty nice


My brother ordered it from "Hodgescustomkydex" (check out his insatgram) He let him know but i think they just agree'd on store credit twords the next one or something so he gave this one to me and ordered these



The one being loose isnt that big of a deal, but if i can fix it, right on haha
