Hi guys,
I like to keep my spotting scope in my bag. Add tripod. basic cleaning supplies, ear muffs, target pasters and tape, staple gun, would be nice to start taking the chrono and we haven't even gotten to ammo yet! Or a rest.
Gets heavy. I have a great 5.11 range bag but its big. very big. the shoulder strap is non functional because the bag is so wide, it does not hang naturally. May as well carry by the handles. Now add a rifle bag or two. It's game over.
So I clearly need a backpack. But a school backpack or a rucksack is no good. I'd have to disassemble the whole mainpocket just to get that chrono at the bottom, or spotting scope.
I'm wondering about a frame pack. I have a spare frame. Could easily pull the bag off and figure something out. Maybe attach several smaller bags to it. pouch for ammo, pouch for spotting stuff, pouch for a pistol. Shooting mat can be rolled up and strapped to the outside. With a clever folding base added, it could stand upright when placed on a flat surface.
It would have to carry EVERYTHING for ANY range trip no matter if it is a quick sight-in for hunting, dragging half the safe out for a day long fun-session, or to public land for some long range shooting on the prone.
It would look REALLY GOOFY at the range. But do you think the idea has merit?

The frame sounds good to me...
