another FrontSight holster question

I have my 4-day defensive class coming up on Feb 1st. Im frantically trying to gather all the gear I can. I just purchases a Safariland ALS holster, which seems very nice. The store owner told me it didnt have a retention but once I got it home I found out that it does in fact have a small retention. My bad for not checking.

Just wondering if anyone knows if this holster will work with the class. I'd hate to spend all this money and get turned away.

I tried searching but no search results would appear, might be a browser problem on my side. Anyways, if anyone has insight id be appreciated. I really wanted to go with a Raven Concealment or a Blade Tech but im just running out of time. Thanks in advance!

I was told that any retention holster is not allowed. Perhaps, call frontsight just to make sure. That way, it is straight from the horse's mouth.

If you can't find one in time, check to see if they have any holsters in stock (their pro shop is pretty well stocked, or at least it was last November when I went for the came class), or one you can rent. But, I'd call them as early as possible.

But if you are looking for Kydex and have an uncommon handgun(1911, Glock, Sig), they will probably not have it.

The issue is likely holsters with a trigger finger deactivated retention. How is the ALS system deactivated? Either way, they won't turn you away, but will help work with you.

Uncle Mike Kydex. Cheap, works very well.

Serpa holsters are banned, but you can use them provided you put a soft ear plug in the retention area to disable it. I saw a few people who did that.

Yeah, their standard holsters are the BladeTech's, but they DO have those to fit just about any gun. I have one, and used it in the class. Worked fine.

I think your retention system is thumb deactivated so you might be okay. They are mainly concerned with the trigger finger deactivated systems.

You could also try posting on the Front Sight First Family forum as there are several instructors there.

maybe because in 3 of the 13 published self-inflicted GSWs at FrontSight had the shooter using a serpa holster. And who knows how many more NDs.

you might think that, but it appears that muscle pressure makes it so that after you push in the button with your curved trigger finger that the finger stays curved as the gun clears the holster and can pop into the trigger guard if you are not careful.

I just came back from Front Sight on Tuesday. Retention holsters are banned because there was an accident while someone was using a Serpa holster. (Shot himself in the leg.) You have to push the release while presenting the pistol. While pushing the release button the finger is under tention and that allows the finger to slip into the trigger while the pistol is being drawn.

It's because people are not using it properly and are curving their fingers to push the button instead of just straightening their trigger finger and letting it slide to a safe position on the frame of the gun. The curved finger leads to the finger going into the trigger and firing off a round. I went through the class two years ago with a serpa and had no problems. I'm annoyed by the ban but safety first.

I have used the 5.11 thumb holster on my m&p at front sight with no issues. Email or call.

I have seen LEO using their level 3 retention holsters

For the skills test, they are slower

But at the end of the day the LEO get a lot of practice with their duty rigs. This should outweigh being slower on the skills test

FOBUS are fine for a front sight course.
They are not the best holster and do have some breakage issues if someone grabs your gun. For the class, no worries

When I took the course shooting support side, I went with a fobus.

I am not goin to carry support side so for the class, it worked as described
