    finally bought one!

Stack-On 18 Gun Convertible Gun Cabinet

First off, I know all the pros and cons of a security cabinet vs a safe, so no need to beat that dead horse. No place for an actual safe down stairs besides the garage (and we all know how horrible of an idea that is) and don't really feel like trying to get one upstairs, so I compromised and went with a lighter and MUCH cheaper security cabinet to keep the honest people honest, and protect my nieces and nephews. It's going in the closet of a room that i keep locked anyways so I figure only the kind of thief that wouldn't be deterred by an actual safe would be getting to it anyways.

Probably going to put it in configuration #3 with all the shelving so i can keep other stuff safe(r) too.

Now starts the quest to fill it up so i can justify a bigger and better one!!! Oh, and NO MORE BUYING AND RETURNING LOCKS AT WALMART!! (at least for long guns anyways )

Not to hijack your thread, but other than the humidity, what is so horrible about a safe in the garage?

Garages are pretty easy to break into, and are easy access for escape vehicles. Also, every time you open it you advertise to anyone passing by that you have a gun safe. If you had a huge safe it might not be as much of an issue, but smaller safes and security cabinets in the garage is not a very smart idea.

got a good deal on it actually. It was the floor model at Sportsman's Warehouse in Rocklin so they gave me 5% off, and being a Firefighter got me another 5% off. Sticker price was $209, i paid $185 out the door. That's the same as the best online deal i found, but no one has this model in stock online.
