Please Help Me Find a Holster

I need to get a holster and some mag pouches as well. Have a training class next Friday so would like to do this soon. I will NOT be using this for concealed carry, so that should narrow some options down yes?

I hate wearing a belt, so was wondering if the clip on type holsters can be any good? Are they called 'paddle' holsters...?

I have heard terms like serpa, no idea what that means though. Brands like Blackhawk, Glaco and Fobus I have heard good things about, do you concur? I obviously want the weapon to stay in, but I don't want to have to undo 27 locks to get it out.

This is for a Glock 17.

Unless you wear a belt or suspenders, 30 oz of loaded G17 will pull your pants down.

For 'get it this week', a Fobus would work. I think they need a little dry lube inside - they really grab sometimes, making a draw something of an adventure - easily tight enough that the paddle version would pull out of your pants before the gun would leave the holster. Same for mag carriers. (That gets better, eventually.)[[ ETA: looking at their site, I see they've evolved their products some; mine are pretty old; might be easier to draw now than my experience.]]

But they're inexpensive, widely available, and better than holding your Glock, or trying to stick it in a pocket.

After that, well, it's pretty wide open.

For now, I prefer an OWB - outside the waist band - because it doesn't demand extra room in the waist of your trousers. Lots of options.

For training you definetly need a decent rig that will last you a while and you need a gun belt, not your WalMart special of the week.

I used the following for when I took my first training classes and still keep them as backup. Great gear that wont break the bank and/or fall apart.

For a Glock 17 you want Size 21. Right or left hand depending.

Gunbelt is a little tricky as you dont normally order the same size as your pants. Usually order one size or two larger. So say with the above belt you fall in the Large category, you are probably better off with an XL sized model.

Lol no. Though maybe they should give me some kind of kickback.

I remember where the OP was when taking my first class and just passing on what I determined from my research what was the most cost effective training rig at the time.

Another less expensive though viable choice is the Glock Sport/Combat holster and mag pouches. Used one as well and they arent half bad given the price. Still need a decent gun belt though like the one I listed above.
