Harbor Freight Safe

I need a small safe that will fit in my sliding door closet located on the 2nd floor. So I am looking for a slender sized safe that isn't too heavy (max 20" in depth and about 350 pounds max). Unfortunately, the Lowes Centurion 12s are all out of stock and a Lowes associate I talked to said it appears that they are discontinuing that model. So, with that said, I'm looking for a similar sized model to put into my closet.

I ran across this yesterday at Harbor Freight.




The safe walls seemed okay, but the keypad and door handle felt very cheap. It does have a manual key to open it just incase. I would like to hear some opinions on this unit for those who have it.

I don't have one, but was thinking about one of these just to store my ammo. Went to HF to take a look and decided they were way too cheezy for me. I think you can find what you're looking for in the same price range and better quality than this.

I have one of these. While it would never be my first choice for a safe, it was bought for me as a birthday present. It is pretty heavy for what it is, the size is nice for storing in a closet or in an upstairs room. If you added another $200 or so to what you would spend for this model, you could purchase a larger much nicer winchester safe at Tractor Supply. Overall I am happy with what I have.

I would say they are much better than the Stack-On Security Cabinet. I got mine for close to 50% off due to a grand opening sale and a 20% off 1 item coupon. Depending on the length of the rifles you are putting in there, you may be able to use only 1 shelf. There is a locking compartment inside at the top of the safe as well.

There is no seal on the door and it is definitely not fire rated at all. There are some steel contraptions welded to the inside of the door that I have no idea as to what they are used for. Nothing in the instructions.

This safe will be regulated to ammo and accessory storage.

I would never trust anything with a "simple" manual key override. Too easy to bypass

I'm looking for similar size...

Sentry GM1459E (or C) - the dimensions of this safe are perfect... I've seen them for as low as $500, but they seem to be a bit high lately... I ordered one from Best Buy a while back (yep, they used to sell gun safes - only small safes now though)... it was delivered damaged and was a cluster phuck from the beginning - so I never accepted it.

WalMart had them for just over $500 for a while... now they are mid $600... I've looked at everything I can find and this is the biggest/heaviest safe that fits the space I have (might work for you too OP).

Lowes now has the newer Liberty Centurion 12 that is made in the USA, for the same price as the older model.

Knowing the quality of Harbor Freight products, I would be afraid that both the electronic lock AND the manual key would break and then you'd be stuck with a heavy, locked box.

I'd spend a couple hundred more and get something that's better quality.

20 minutes and I'd have that HF safes door cracked wide open with 2 prybars. Pass on it and buy something quality.
