    Problem locking safe

I need assistance. Recently bought a Champion safe shown below. I'm having difficulty locking the safe after opening. I have tried:

    1. Putting in the wrong code prior to engaging bolts.
    2. Pressing the asterisk and the pound button.
    3. Leaving the safe for a period of time to see if the lock engages.

The bolt engages to close the door, but the safe door does not remain locked when opened. It's a holiday weekend and Champion Safe Co. is closed for the weekend. Wanted to see if my fellow calgunners can offer some assistance. Thanks.

I would think it would lock automatically after closing the door and turning the handle to the locked position, try leaving the door open and rotating the handle to lock the door....you might have a bolt that is not fully extending into the lock.

The lock probably has a tamper limit and times out after several attempts to enter the combination.

Thanks guys. Sounds like I may have a defective "detent" device in the locking mechanism. Awesome link Cranemech, dissuaded me into looking into the mechanism my self.
