I purchased a Gun Vault Mod. GC1000-Std. Mini pistol safe about 6 months ago and I found that I was having to replace batteries about every 6 weeks with nominal use. I called Gun Vault and was told that I should ONLY use Duracell batteries that had a recent date of manufacture stamped on the package and that would resolve the problem. I was skeptical but felt obligated to at least try their suggestion before I went any further. Well, no surprise, their "solution" was worthless and I still had the same problem. I checked on-line and found that there were many complaints from others about the identical situation and the complaints were also that Gun Vault was not providing a satisfactory solution. I was going to convert mine to operate with an ac/dc adaptor but decided I'd give Gun Vault 1 more chance. Yesterday, I went online to chat "live" with their support department and - after providing the representative with my model #, serial # and manufacture date was told that there was, in fact, a mfg. problem and that I would be shipped a new safe. I e-mailed them my shipping info and I'm waiting for the promised replacement safe. FYI, my safe was manufactured on 04/11. I don't know the dates that Gun Vault has determined were the faulty mfg. dates, but if you're having the same problem, it's worth a try. BTW, the safe's serial # and other info is on a label under the padding on the floor.

Glad they're taking care of you.
Just as a comparison, I have an older multi-vault, and have only changed the batteries once.....and that was just as a precaution. I open mine about once a week or so, and the batteries last for years. -

found a reveiw on costco,they told him march 2011 manufacture dates were faulty, i looked in the safe and if you pull up the bottom foam, it shows manufacture date and sure enough mine is march 2011. and sure enough, mine was eating batteries every month, scary when you depend on this for your bedside gun.
