Could I see some pics of what you carry to the >>RANGE? (cases, ammo boxes etc.))

Polypropylene, aluminum, steel, wood, or _____ ?
    Padlocked, key-locked, biometric
    , or _____ ?

I'm a woman and really don't want something too heavy; nonetheless I'd like something large enough to hold one revolver + ear muffs
+ ammo + my wallet so I can frankly just leave my purse at home. Since I drive a large van I don't have a trunk and therefore need ideas on how to secure the handgun from my home to the range. Don't be bashful! I don't care how humble it is, I'm really looking for pictures.

I looked for a thread specifically for Range Cases but couldn't find one, so I hope it's okay to start one here? otherwise, just point me in the right direction.

Put the revolver in a soft case that's no bigger than the gun itself, and pad lock the zipper handles. A soft case will take up less room in a range bag, and with a padlock on the zipper handle it's considered a locked container.

Add in ear muffs, shooting glasses, a couple of boxes of ammo.... pretty much any 'smaller' size bag will work (something around the 13x9x9 dimensions will be more than enough). You can find range bags of that size for around $10 - $30 at most places. Lots of different configurations, sizes, and styles to choose from.

As long as the revolver is locked up, you don't need a lock on the bag.

That was my original plan. softcase on the revolver, but I wanted a lock on the softcase. Then the range bag could be unlocked.

Well my revolver is almost 19 inches long, so basically no-go on a local softcase. So for the range bag, I found a barely 19 inch long model at a military surplus store. GREAT, GREAT resource for range bags. I didn't want a bag that screams "I'm a range bag and have a gun in me" bag. The surplus store was great because I had my choice between surplus and new camping-style equipment. They even have "tactical" stuff for those other kinds of people too.

After that, it was a trip to the home depot to get a couple TSA locks (who knows when I might want to fly with this) and I was good to go.

      -----------------

While I was at the store, I found TWO bags. One compartmentalized bag that holds the gun, ammo, muffs, targets, cleaning kit, etc etc etc/kitchen sink with a shoulder strap. And a second bag that's small, easy to carry, and enough space for basically the gun in sock and ammo and that's it. So now I'm covered whether for quick trip or long day of shooting.

I have a wagon by the way and I don't worry about security. Lock goes on the bag and bag either goes in the trunk or on the passenger seat, depending.

One day I'll buy a softcase for a contender and then the lock will go on that, not the bag. But those TSA locks are small enough to fit on the zipper.

I'm not talking about "security" here, we are talking about simply following California law.

        --------------------

oh but you wanted pics. I'll try to snap one of my kitchen sink bag (I think ~$40-45) sometime, but here is my gun-ammo-that's-it bag which cost me a whopping 19 bucks at the surplus store (I think I may go buy a second one for general purpose)

Allen locking, soft pistol case. The lock is built into the end of the zipper.

I have 4 of these for my hand guns. I think I bought mine from Midway.

Here is a link to Allen's web sight. Hope this helps.

5:11 pistol case... thrown in my backpack with some targets, ammo etc. If it doesn't fit it doesn't go. Or if I am super lazy, the thing is holstered and tossed in the backpack.......

I don't over think it, I live in Fresno County where the police don't crap themselves if you have a gun in the car.
