I'm sharing this now because I've moved out of this location and don't have anything similar in my new house, so I thought I'd share this with you guys.
I figured the first line of defense in preventing the safe from being compromised is to hide it. When I first bought this place, I was crawling around in the attic and noticed a closet sized void behind the niche. I thought it could fit a safe nicely and it did. Unfortunately I moved the safe before I thought to take a picture, but you get the idea. All told, I think I had about $140 worth of materials in this project.
