How to keep a safe from being stolen? HIDE IT! Pics inside!

I'm sharing this now because I've moved out of this location and don't have anything similar in my new house, so I thought I'd share this with you guys.

I figured the first line of defense in preventing the safe from being compromised is to hide it. When I first bought this place, I was crawling around in the attic and noticed a closet sized void behind the niche. I thought it could fit a safe nicely and it did. Unfortunately I moved the safe before I thought to take a picture, but you get the idea. All told, I think I had about $140 worth of materials in this project.

Im Mexico where home invasions are common they come in with metal detectors and search for the safe. After they find it they start cutting your toes and fingers off one by one untill you open it.

I did something similar in the walk in closet in the master bedroom in a house in Idaho. I built a false wall with crown molding and a chair rail. You pulled the chair rail out and the whole back wall of the closet came out and I had a built in gun case behind it. When the house was for sale we never showed anyone but after we sold it we pulled the closet wall out and left it open for the new owners to find.
