Most civilization is based on cowardice. It's so easy to civilize by teaching cowardice. You water down the standards which would lead to bravery. You restrain the will. You regulate the appetites. You fence in the horizons. You make a law for every movement. You deny the existence of chaos. You teach even the children to breathe slowly. You tame.

Hey Irish, do they also provide a receipt? Because the state does not recognize a gun lock unless it was purchased in the last 30 days.

If you're posting this because you want people to be "Safe", you're preaching to the choir.

I believe you can get them to do a hand written one...depends on the department i guess, i haven't gone in yet because it's 25 min away and the state doesn't know that i'm one of the good guys yet because they haven't finished scrutenizing my record yet (still in 10 day hell). I'll get it this weekend and let you know what Butte County SO does about the receipt.

Not trying to preach to the choir, but i noticed i'm not the only one who is sick of buying new locks (especially for rifles which NEVER NEED THEM since i transport in my trunk around school zones). wanted to give people the option to get a free lock rather than have to buy one each time or buy and return each time. Just some sound advice, just cuz you're in the choir doesn't mean you're the holiest of holys...i've seen some rediculous posts on here before and i'm sure you have too.

I don't like buying locks either but the law clearly states you must have a receipt dated within 30 days. So hand written receipts are out.

I believe that if you provide an approved lock, that's good enough. Hell, I have a friggen SAFE that's as big as a fridge and still, I have to "buy" a lock.

no you dont. you can sign the safe affidavit and you wont need to buy locks. some places dont ask or care about locks on long guns, others do. Big 5 has corporate intrest to protect, so they care. the other store i've botten from has never asked for a lock. It's up to the store whether they are going to accept a hand written receipt or not, i think if it comes from a police department, you'll be ok. and i'm sure the cop would write the date on it. a little explanation is usually all it takes.

hand written receipts are fine, they just need the date and show the make/model of lock on it. there's nothing in the PC that says it has to be printed on a certain piece of paper or anything like that.
